When you can do stuff like this, it's time to work up some originals. I look at parody as a fun diversion. This is workable into some serious songs that you owe to no one else. Maybe you already do that?
Nope, I'm just a part-time parodist-hobbyist. My musical talent has its limits - I'm not highly skilled at reading sheet music, and the only instrument I can play with ease and confidence is my voice. I feel like I've always had an intuitive sense of rhythm, syncopation, and lyrical structure, however...that's why I enjoy writing parodies so much, I guess. I would be open to someday trying my hand at working with more-highly-skilled musicians & composers as a lyricist - I think I could pull it off, and in any event it would be a gas!

It is hard to believe that it has been 36 years since the Apollo launchpad fire and 17 years since the Challenger tragedy. Johnny D, your outstanding parody depicts these events with the sensitivity and significance they deserve.

JD - This was really a great tribute to those brave souls that perished for the sake of science and knowlege. These fearless adventures are only slightly upstaged by our military members who get put onto harms way at the drop of a hat. Well done. I give you all fives. I'll just substitute how funny for how sensitive and caring. Thanks!
Guy, thank you very much. Our military sisters and brothers in uniform here on the good Earth, who voluntarily stand between us and so much of the hatred and chaos in this world, do indeed deserve an even higher place of honor than the 17 astronauts memorialized here. As we all go about our daily routines and spend time enjoying creative pursuits such as Amiright, it's all too easy to forget that our peace and freedom costs something every day - we all owe an ongoing debt of gratitude to our brothers and sisters who willingly, freely, and courageously pay that price so that we don't have to.
I saw the Challenger disaster driving to work 17 years ago. It will stay with me for a lifetime. The vision was a nightmare. Thank you for your moving tribute.

I think "funny" was arbitrarily chosen as a scoring category (why not? - and humour should be encouraged) - but nobody wants to manacle creativity, especially when it attempts to access emotional truths like this did. Non-funny parodies shouldn't be precluded from getting a deserved 5 on the narrow basis of unfunniness - so I award the second 5 as I always do - on merit

A great piece of work JD. I agree with the restrictiveness of the funny criteria, I simply convert it to sincerity or whatever else is needed to fit the bill when a work is obviously sincere. :)
