The Lyrics

In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings, the race of beings called "Elves" are also sometimes referred-to as "The Eldar". In other writings byJ.R.R. Tolkien, the Elven race is also called "The Children Of The Stars". The Elves, an immortal humanoid race, came to Middle-Earth from their homeland, Valinor, also called "The Blessed Realm", which is across the Western Ocean. As J.R.R. told the story, after the events of The Lord Of The Rings, group after group of Elves sailed away from Middle-Earth to return home to Valinor. The ships they sailed in were built in Middle-Earth at The Grey Havens by an Elf called Cirdan (pronounced "Keer-dann") the Shipwright. Eventually, only two Elves were left in Middle-Earth: Celeborn (Galadriel's husband), and Cirdan himself. When those two Elves sailed away for Valinor, that was the end of the time of the Elves in Middle-Earth.
Cirdan the Shipwright
Elven ship-maker supreme
Wise immortal so serene
You watch the tide's eternal ebb and flow
Ages come and go

'Tis to you your people turn
When deep in their hearts they yearn
To sail away from Middle-Earth's sad shores

Eldar pull the oars
Raise your sails and put to sea
Turn your faces West so blissfully
Set course for your destiny
Forget all Middle-Earth's mortality
Weep tears of joy, you're free

Cirdan the Shipwright
At your harbor patiently
You await with certainty
The coming of The Children Of The Stars
The last of the Eldar

Pilgrims fair and wise are they
As they come to Havens Grey
To sail away to home in Valinor

Eldar pull the oars
Raise your sails and put to sea
Turn your faces West so blissfully
Set course for your destiny
Forget all Middle-Earth's mortality
Weep tears of joy, you're free

Rivendell's Master
Fair Elrond Wise and True

Now that you've kissed Arwen goodbye
As she assumes her mortal life
You weep the tears that fathers often do

But we could have told you, Elrond
One day you'd hear The Blessed Realm across the Sea call you

Cirdan the Shipwright
Build your Elven ships so vast
Snow-white sails and silver masts
To carry all your kindred to their home
Across the ocean's foam

Noble Men of Middle-Earth
Shall pass down from birth to birth
Their wistful mem'ries of the Elven Race

Now with dreamlike grace
The last Elf-ship leaves the quay
Celeborn and Cirdan put to sea
Middle-Earth weeps silently
And whispers farewell to all those who are
The Children Of The Stars

Oh, no. I'm not going through this again! This is one reason why I only do one spoof per song.

Thank you Adagio, Jan, and Arwen!

And Rick - going through exactly what, pray tell ?

Johnnie, in order to do our song, I had to avoid and forget everything about "Vincent". I didn't want any of it seeping into our original. I have to do this a lot when writing. Once someone I knew overheard me writing something, and thought it would be funny to loudly sing something he thought was close to what I was trying to do. Needless to say, he is long gone and far away. That song got finished, but not without a bad taste.

Rick - OK, got it, I understand. Well, at least this, my 3rd "Vincent" parody, was completed and posted after you and Mari finished composing and recording "They Flew Beyond The Sky". I suppose that if I, too, were a composer, I also would be dealing with the issues you described. But as an amateur parodist/lyricist, I haven't encountered any personal difficulties with writing multiple parodies of the same original song...that's just part of who I am as a writer, I guess.

Johnny: This one is incredibly beautiful! You picked the perfect song for the mood and your poetry is beautiful! This is just a lush, full composition that hardly qualifies as parody - really more a sort of "Vincent" tribute! Bravo!

Sayyyyy Rick....any chance you and Mari might want to do, oh, gee, I don't know, maybe a Lord-of-The-Rings-related song about, hmmm, oh, I dunno, maybe about the Elves sailing away across the sea or something ?? Just kidding LOL !

Stray Pooch: Aww shucks, I'm speechless! Then again, no, I'm not! I'll speak right here and now and say thank you - very much - and a compliment like yours, coming from the author of that incredibly hilarious and creative Bo Rap Flintstone parody (genius!), means a LOT - thanks again!

JD - I just have to get busy and watch those LOTR DVDs. I was going to rent LOTR one and two when three came out and take my 12 year old to see it but he passed on the offer. Guess I'll wait until LOTR three hits the video rental stores and take about a week to watch all three. This parody was good even though I don't know the story line, but if these LOTR parodies keep hitting this site I may not need to see the movies since it all seems to be getting put into parody form on this site. May be interesting doing the reverse, that is seeing the movies after all the parody is run out on them.

As parodies go this one was well timed and easy to read. The story had good integrity and everything seemed to fit well together. You got a top vote from me.

Thank you, Guy. As always, it means a lot to me to receive that kind of comment from you.

Everybody, this deserves many more votes...it's just plain beautiful!! You all give a read, please!!

Thanks for the plug, Adagio - always appreciated for any parody!

A very different type of parody than what you usually do, Johnny! But very lovely.
