The Lyrics

( --- piano instrumental intro --- )

Joseph, pray and choose some letters
Your thoughts might hit on something
That'll show which name is better

We've burned the ballots, smoke is white
So take a bow

They're gonna hear the bells a-ringing
In the plaza now

Say, put on this white, no more wearing that red
Oh, what's your Pope-name, now?

"B-B-B-B-B-Benedict", he says
"Number Fifteen was so wonderful,
Call me Be-ne-dict the Sixteenth."

He got elected to
The Papal shoes
And now his blessing is "Urbi et Orbi"
(Yeah! Ho!)
"B-B-B-Benedict", he says

( --- brief piano instrumental --- )

Joseph, show love to the faithless
Maybe they're blinded
But Benedict must face this

Peace shall arrive
Help us make our planet strong

No more fighting violently in the streets
Over who's right and who's wrong

Raise hands while you're smiling, high above your head
So, what's your Pope-name, now?

"B-B-B-B-B-Benedict", he says
"Number Fifteen was so wonderful,
Call me Be-ne-dict the Sixteenth."

He got elected to
The Papal shoes
And now his blessing is "Urbi et Orbi"
(Yeah! Ho!)
"B-B-B-Benedict", he says

( --- piano instrumental bridge --- )

So put on these white robes, no more Cardinal-red
Oh, what's your Pope-name, now?

"B-B-B-B-B-Benedict", he says
"Number Fifteen was so wonderful,
Call me Be-ne-dict the Sixteenth."

He got elected to
Saint Peter's shoes
You know his blessing is "Urbi et Orbi"
(Yeah! Ho!)
"B-B-B-Benedict", he says

Bene-, Benedict he says
Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Benedict he says
Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Benedict he says

Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Benedict he says
Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Benedict he says
Says
Says
Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Bene-, Benedict he says

And yours is not so bad itself, JD. Nice job sticking with all the "Bene's" at the end.

This is just silly and fun! Wonder if and how much the former Cardinal Ratzinger had thought about possible Papal names, this one is wunderbar for the song.
