The Lyrics

Ub Iwerks is pretty much an unheard of name in this day and age UNLESS you're a huge fan of classic cinema OR Disney BUT he was pretty much responsible for everything that Walt Disney created back in the 20s and 30s. He created what Mickey, Minnie and Pete all look like even up through today. There was a lot of bickering between these two men back in the era and this song showcases everything that they went through.
[Walt Disney]:
Keep on working for Walt
[Ub Iwerks]:
Some credit would be nice
[Walt Disney]:
Ub, buddy, Don't talk such nonsense
[Ub Iwerks]:
Mickey was my design

[Walt Disney]:
Keep on working for Walt
[Ub Iwerks]:
I think you're "Plane Crazy"
[Walt Disney]:
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's a score
[Ub Iwerks]:
That's stolen from me!

[Both]:
OooooWoooo.... Showed off my Willie
[Ub Iwerks]:
I mean "Steamboat"
[Walt Disney]:
You know I don't

[Walt Disney + Ub Iwerks]:
OooooWoooo.... Symphony's Silly! (Symphony's Siiiiiiiiiiiiii-illy)
[Walt Disney]:
We topped all the charts
[Ub Iwerks]:
You stole all my art!
Ruuuuuuuude... Demands were too harsh!

[Walt Disney]:
Bro, Keep on working for Walt
[Ub Iwerks]:
I won't keep working for Walt
[Walt Disney / Ub Iwerks]:
(Keep on / Won't keep) working for Walt

[Walt Disney]:
We're getting so famous
[Ub Iwerks]:
Nope, I remain nameless
[Walt Disney]:
Can you fix that rat's shape?!
[Ub Iwerks]:
Eighteenth time I changed it

[Walt Disney]:
Think your "Skeleton Dance" stinks
[Ub Iwerks]:
You put such strife in my life
[Walt Disney]:
Now I think our mouse needs a dame
[Ub Iwerks]:
Cheesed me off the last time!

[Both]
OooooWoooo.... Headache's not Minnie!
[Walt Disney]:
My name is renowned
[Ub Iwerks]:
Mine isn't found!

[Both]
OooooWoooo.... Keep the kids grinnin! (Keep the kids griiiiiiiii-innin')
[Walt Disney]:
In charge since I'm smart
[Ub Iwerks]:
You sniff your own farts
Oooooooooo... Spotlight you bogart

[Walt Disney]:
Keep on working for Walt
[Ub Iwerks]:
I won't keep working for Walt
[Both]
(Keep on/ Won't keep) working for Walt

[Insturmental Solo as Walt and Ub deck it out]

[Both]
OooooWoooo.... You're crazed and Goofy!
[Walt Disney]:
We're earning a mound
[Ub Iwerks]:
Learn how to count!
[Walt Disney]:
Build a theme park
[Ub Iwerks]:
Ideas I've sparked
Whoooooooaaaa... They're nabbed like a shaaaaaark!

[Walt Disney]:
Keep on drawing for Walt
[Ub Iwerks]:
Won't keep on drawing for Walt
[Walt Disney + Ub Iwerks]
Keep on drawing for...
Won't keep drawing for...
Keep on drawing for Walt...

[Walt Disney + Ub Iwerks]:
Keep on sketchin' for...
Won't keep sketchin' for...
You'll keep on sketchin' for Walt...

[Walt Disney + Ub Iwerks]:
Keep on slavin' for Walt
Won't keep slavin' for...
I won't keep slavin' for Walt

Duets are always interesting to do, lots of potential to tell stories, and yo u old an interesting one here, Matty. I hadn't heard of Ub Iwerks until now. He sounds like a Tech start up company! I particularly liked the "(Keep on / Won't keep) working for Walt" dual-single line moments.

As a lifelong animated cartoon fan, I've always thought that Ub Iwerks was a strange name! All I knew about this guy was his name. I did recently see a PBS documentary about Walt, including a cartoonists' strike against him. I don't remember if Ub or someone else was responsible for sparking that strike. Anyway, 555 to you! Did Iwerks I-werk (someone had to do it!) for Paramount/Famous/Harvey Cartoons for awhile?

Look around on the 'net you can find DVDs and illicit YouTubes (a portion of his stuff got into public domain) of cartoons Iwerks made during his estrangement from Disney. There is also a 2-disc Disney Golden Collection of a handful of Oswald The Lucky Rabbit cartoons and a full-length documentary of Iwerks' life directed by his granddaughter.

The building where Mickey Mouse was born (the real mouse Walt took as his inspiration) is still standing, on East 31st Street in Kansas City, Missouri. It is in poor shape and I don't think today's Disney organization is much interested in restoring it.

Well now the challenge has become educational! Never even heard of Ub Iwerks - much to his chagrin it seems. Although UbIwerksland does not quite have the ring to it that Disneyland does. I love how you imagine this moment in time Matthias, and their Martin Lewis style bickering - fave line: [Walt Disney]: My name is renowned [Ub Iwerks]: Mine isn't found! - 555

Great use of the original here - AND it's followed by Patrick working "still standing" into his comment on this parody by Elton John! ROTFL!

Ok, now I want you to write a Stan Lee / Jack Kirby version of this song. Fun stuff and good work getting Ub Iwerks name back in the spotlight.
