As anyone who's read some of my previous works knows, my favorite nominee for the worst state government in the entire USA is California's. Nevertheless, it does have some pretty stiff competition for that "honor" from—of all places—another certain state clear across the continent: incredible as it may seem, I've lately been informed that New Yorkers—especially those from the Big Apple so rotten they named it twice—are fleeing their state at an even higher rate than Californians!
Word to all o' youse: we're leaving this place.
We've got to get away from it: New York, New York.
Flee haters of Jews, and baiters of race;
Got to escape this blue cesspit: New York, New York.
We just can't take no more living where crime never sleeps;
Where courts are packed with lawless Commie rat creeps!

In part, what inspired this parody was the opening sequence from the Watchmen (2019) sequel series' fifth episode, in which the introduction to Sinatra's famous version of this song was juxtaposed over a broad aerial shot of the devastation caused by the giant squid attack on New York City in the original graphic novel as the episode proceeded to cut to an advertising agency's vain attempt to persuade people to repopulate the city. Once again, life has imitated art, albeit for decidedly more mundane reasons: as with the depopulation of many Roman cities during the Roman Empire's twilight years, it's bad government, rather than some fantastic catastrophe, which is driving the depopulation of New York City in real life.

When I give a parody all ones, I stand up, act like an adult, and admit it. Yes, I did that here. It stinks. And it's a lie. People are not fleeing New York, and they certainly aren't doing so to go to the hellscape that Florida has become. There's an old saying about New York: Everybody mutinies, but nobody deserts. You know why we got high taxes in New York and New Jersey? Because we take care of our own. And we're damn proud of it. Do NOT mess with New York, because we will mess right back, and we have the experience edge.
