Original Song Title:

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds

Parody Song Title:

Parody Written by:

Andria

The Lyrics

This parody is about introducing someone who has seemingly never heard about the group who sang the OS (Original Song) to that group via old records. *"near and far": Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds was fairly popular in Japan during the 1970s, hence the occasional LP record of H, JF & R (identified by the picture of three men, side-by-side, with archetypal 1970s hairstyles) with a Japanese-language cover that can be found in thrift shops and record stores and at yard sales. Thus, "near and far" refers to the US and Japan, respectively.
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
Oh, they are the greatest law firm
That recorded music in the disco years
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
A group of three musicians
Who never got ‘nuff recognition in their years

You say you've never heard, never heard that three-man group
But when I listen to them, I let out a big war whoop
Don’tcha know they’re called “law firm” when they never practiced law
'Cause of the way they wrote their name

Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
Oh, they are the greatest law firm
That recorded music in the disco years
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
A group of three musicians
Who never got ‘nuff recognition in their years

Haven't heard “Don’t Pull Your Love”, what about “Fallin’ In Love”?
Have you ever heard “Annabelle”?
Or “1 Good Woman”?
If I plugged in my turntable and I put on an old LP,
Would that make you say “I’ve heard it all!”

Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
Oh, they are the greatest law firm
That recorded music in the disco years
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
A group of three musicians
Who never got ‘nuff recognition in their years

There's so much I wanna hear
I've got records far and near*
And I'll never listen to them, if you’ve never heard

Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
Oh, they are the greatest law firm
That recorded music in the disco years
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
A group of three musicians
Who never got ‘nuff recognition in their years

Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
Oh, they are the greatest law firm
That recorded music in the disco years
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds
A group of three musicians
Who never got ‘nuff recognition in their years

Happy Cinco De Mayo, and once again, Andria says "Don't Drink and Drive"!

Happy Cinco De Mayo to you too, Andria! I never listened much to H,JF,&R. But I always heard this OS you parodied and wondered who sung it, until I found out on YouTube. Great song, you inspired me to listen to them now. 555!

I managed Record stores, back in the day when these guys were out, and I remember selling their singles. For this wonderful parody, Andria, here's 555 singles...

To the anonymous 1-bombers, I would appreciate a comment about what you all find so wrong with my parodies each time you give me 1s. Thank you, and good day.

To Gari J., the subject of this parody is the group who performed the OS. Their most prominent song titles were written in by none other than me.

(ABC) Loved this the last time around! Brings back my record store days...

Thanks, Mark. The voice and talent of Gari J. (seen in many of my comments and all throughout AIR in the spring and summer of 2009) is much missed around here, at least I miss him and his generous, comical commenting style, and the onebombs are very much undeserved, methinks.

Straight 444 on this one. It's a cute idea, but with a bit more attention to pace, variations on choruses and giggles, this could be rewritten to a 555 level.
Abbott Skelding - June 07, 2010 - Report this comment
ABC- Nice work, never heard the original though, and I agree with Grim, pacing was a little off and the choruses could be varied.

Not bad Andria, I can't say I got the biggest laughs from it in comparison with the first three from the ABC round I've read, but unique. I won't harp on pacnig simply cause others already have, but I know in the ABC rounds sometimes its not about being the best, its about getting feedback and advice, so keep it up,

(ABC-GH) Repeated choruses aside, this was a quirky little parody. Not one of your best, but still very good, and a very unusual topic at that. Worth a 555, methinks.
Matthias - June 12, 2010 - Report this comment
As everyone already said this was just alright. Not my favorite that you've done but not a bad parody either.

(ABC G/H) Nice to read/sing your parody again, Andria! LOL at the group that sounds like a law firm. Speaking of which, it reminds me of one of the episodes of Fresh Prince of Bel Air that Will's uncle Phil worked with a group of lawyers called "Firth, Wynn, and Meyer" where Will humourously compares the law firm to the disco artists "Earth, Wind, and Fire", so this sounds a lot similar to your parody written here. Ironic, isn't it? Still enjoyed this tribute and I actually heard of the group before because my parents had their album on LP and 8-track.
Warren Baker - June 14, 2010 - Report this comment
(ABC G/H) After spending so much time in record stores, this was fun to relate to, recalling how the 'pops' and 'clicks' on the vinyl were as much a part of the song as the music was. And this was such an unlikely pairing of subjects for a parody, which is one of the reasons I liked it so much!
Jeff Reuben - June 14, 2010 - Report this comment
Interesting, I had never heard of the group so I learned something today. Not bad.
DJ Blaze - June 14, 2010 - Report this comment
I've heard that song several times, never knew who did it. Thanks for clearing that up, good parody, but a tiny bit off-pace. 455

Agrimorfee: Thanks for v/c. Constructive criticism much appreciated.

Abbott: Thanks. :-)

B.A. Dave: Agreed, I give that advice to the newbies to ABC when needed.

BPC (Conqueror): Agreed. If you want to see a bad parody from me, check out my first 2. But hurry, I'll be asking Chucky to delete them and the two that came after them in 2007 (similarly execrable, I ignore all four these days) since I'm kind of ashamed of them.

Matthias: Thanks. :-)

Christie: Thanks a bunch. I think I remember that episode, and I love Earth, Wind & Fire. Very ironic, and your parents had good taste in LP and 8-track.

Warren Baker: Great comment. Agreed 100% on the remark about vinyl. It's my preferred medium for listening to older (1920s through early 80s) songs.

Jeff Reuben: Everyone should learn at least one new thing every day. I learned two things: that people actually pay attention to contest deadlines and that old Dodge vans aren't the rusty, unreliable wrecks, many people think they are. ;-) (I intend to buy a 1977 camper conversion 1-ton Dodge van sometime in July or August, and it's Chevys and VWs that are the rusty clunkers)

DJ Blaze: Agreed, and you too learned something new.

To everyone, I will be putting up new work soon. Just have to make time for parody-writing, figure out OpenOffice, and overcome my writer's block. :-)
