The Lyrics

A "Lord of the Rings" song in which Gimli the dwarf sings the praises of his cousin Balin and Moria to the elf Legolas to the tune of John Denver's "Today".
Today, in the kingdom that they call a mine,
We’ll find sanctuary and lavishly dine.
The tests of tomorrow are ages away;
Balin the valiant will host us in style today.

Legolas, let me assure you that no one
In all of your halls where the Elven lords sing
Can rival the heart of that cousin of Gloin.
Truly he’s the noblest of kings.

Today, in the kingdom that they call a mine,
We’ll rest - once the wizard can work out this sign.
The tests of tomorrow are ages away;
Balin the valiant will host us in style today.

His deeds are recounted in old Bilbo’s story,
Well-known to the hobbit who’s bearing the Ring.
Come, let us meander through Moria’s glory;
Beauty is not just an Elf thing.

Today, in the kingdom that they call a mine,
We’ll marvel at mithril so fluid and fine.
The tests of tomorrow are ages away;
Balin the valiant will host us in style today.

Today, in the kingdom that they call a mine,
We’ll find sanctuary and lavishly dine.
The tests of tomorrow are ages away;
Balin the valiant will host us in style today.

Same comment as at your Friday parody on this topic. And is "Bilbo" or "Bilbopooh" really a LOTR character? Hope to see you do some other topic soon, though of course that's each writer's choice. One *last* set of Fives, in case this one, too, is left in the lurch by LOTR fans.

Thanks, TT! Yes, Bilbo is the main character in "The Hobbit," which immediately precedes "Lord of the Rings". Sort of a minor character in LotR but still important. The Pooh in my name is in reference to Winnie the Pooh. ;) I've got LotR on the brain right now - as I often do - but I'm sure something else will come along and strike my fancy before long!

Whew! Took the most common meaning of "pooh" -- and I expect that most other readers do, too, so maybe it's not, uh, the most appealing nick? Just sayin'...

Not into Hobbit, either, but still can't understand why AIR LOTR fans aren't here. In good conscience, TT can't keep voting on their behalf, so no hard feelings if future Hobbit/LOTR parodies aren't visited by moi, 'k? ... but by all means, write to please yourself. You can't please everyone, anyway. Cheers!

Ya, I suppose that connotation is rather unavoidable... But I've been using that name online since I first embraced the Internet and now I'd feel a bit lost without it! When I get around to putting up a bio I'll definitely clarify that.

No hard feelings at all; very kind of you to drop by these last couple of days! :)

Never read or watched LOTR in ages! But this brought back wonderful memories of when I watched the movie with my bro. When you write those types of parodies, whether it be about 'Lost', 'Winnie The Pooh', or any children's series, you sure have great taste! Great job and 5's!

Excellent! Lots of nice lines including "Beauty is not just an elf thing" and "The tests of tomorrow are ages away." Great read.

Thanks, Christine! I find it very easy to get lost in a good story! :)

Thank you, Warren! Glad you liked it!
