The Lyrics

It's pretty likely that you will NOT get this song unless you are a sports fan whose team is situated in the Mountain West Conference. While any self-respecting NCAA sports fan should admit to hating BYU, I think it's only those of us who have to play them every year...down in their stinking Marriott Center...where, for some reason, they cannot be beaten...that can relate to this song. I, myself, am a Wyoming Cowboys fan through and through...but I feel like everyone in the conference can share my sentiments toward the Cougars.
Losing to the Cougars is so crappy
Losing down in Provo makes me cry
Winning just one time would be so lovely
Winning there would surely make me high

Losing to the Lobos isn't too bad
Losing to the Rebels is okay
Losing to the Rams doesn't make me that sad
Just B-Y-U can make me feel this way

Losing to the Cougars is so crappy
Losing down in Provo makes me cry
Winning just one time would be so lovely
Winning there would surely make me high

When we play in Laramie, we beat them
It's not like they're really all that good
Rowdy Cowboy fans all love to greet them
And watch the Cowboys win just like they should

Losing to the Cougars is so crappy
Losing down in Provo makes me cry
Winning just one time would be so lovely
Winning there would surely make me high

Winning there would surely make me high

Good pace to the original. Well done.

What part of Wyoming are you from? I have visited your state. I used to live in Nebraska a long time ago. Very lovely scenery in most parts as I recall on the visit..

Thanks Johnny...HOORAY for your comment...wouldn't that be a dream come true!!!?? Guy...I live in Laramie...home of the University of Wyoming and the Wyoming Cowboys!

I've been north through Colorado into Cheyenne and Francis E Warren AFB. I then turned right and didn't stop, except for gas until I reached Omaha about ten hours later.

Laramie is about 45 miles from Cheyenne. West. It's way better than Cheyenne, too!

Pacing was perfect, Arwen. Five cheers for local/regional topic parodies; they definitely deserve a place on this site. Maybe the Cowboys can get Gandalf on their side next time in Utah (Mordor to you). d;:^)

Thanks, Bob. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that all of Utah=Mordor. I lived in SLC for 4 years, and though I'm glad to be back where I belong, I do miss it sometimes. But Provo/BYU campus is definitely Mount Doom. Without a doubt!! Thanks, as always, for the feedback!

I'm traveling down that proverbial road now, being a Colts fan that always dreads losing to New England. It doesn't seem to matter where they play at, but the Colts stink especially at the Pats' stadium(s).

Isn't it the pits? I HATE it. I can at least take solace in the fact that NOBODY can beat BYU at home...or so it seems. they have won 57 of their last 58 at home...there is just something about the Marriott Center. I've always said that the true measure of a team is how well they play on the road, because it's easy to win at home. But the Cowboys haven't won on the road yet this year...so...I'm starting to wonder about my theories. It couldn't possibly be that they aren't as good as i think they are...could it???

Arwen, fine job. I used to feel the same way about the Dodgers losing to the Giants, Rams to the 49er's, Lakers to the Celtics (oh, that was pure TORTURE for SO LONG!) back when I lived and died with Sports and the local teams. The Lakers are of some interest to me still but not enough to have kept my Cable subscription going to see their home games. I'd like them to take it all this year but if not, well....they've got plenty of banners and life goes on....

Paul, one day I'll reach the level of enlightenment that you're at and I won't have to live and die for my Cowboys...this, however, is not that day.

The quote above this one is a classic. This was great, I forwarded it to a buddy of mine, big BYU fan (more football than basketball) who also loved it. I can certainly relate by subbing ACC stuff for Mountain West, but any song about the Mountain West is cool.

Thanks, Jeff! You brought this out of obscurity just in time for the basketball season to get back underway...=)

Brigham Young, the Penn State of the Rockies. At least LaVell Edwards isn't as ugly as Joe Paterno, though he shared Ol' Ratface's tendency to run up the score.

Hooray! Michael found my ONE sports parody!! Admit it, Sugar...you're proud of me, aren't you?

Sheesh, I think that compliment, not to mention Wyoming's 1943 National Championship banner, is going to your pointy-eared head...
Arwen - February 05, 2005 - Report this comment
Oh how I love a man who's done his research...you're simply adorable, Mr. Pacholek!
Arwen - February 13, 2005 - Report this comment
Not that any of you care...but I just thought I'd let you all know that this song is basically MOOT now...as my beloved Cowboys FINALLY beat those whiney Cougars down in Provo...HOORAY! =)
