The Lyrics

"I’m so tired of this silly Bruce write, but think I finished, it tonight. But think I finished, it tonight."

Whew! Toughest song I have done to date, I almost gave up about thirty-seven times. Hats off to all who have done this one, which is one of my fave OS of all time. Please tell me the rest of the Big 7 will be easier. :-) This gives me 4 out of 7, I think, but not planning on doing another one any time soon! =)

This is a little tribute to Am I Right and its good people. I found this site about 3 months ago or so and it has been a great creative outlet for me. There is so much talent here, it’s amazing. This parody is about some of the great, and not so great, people and things on Am I Right. Some are mentioned by name, (I hope you don’t mind, it’s all good stuff) and some are not. (That would be the not so good stuff) I wish I could have gotten everyone who has touched my heart, my funny bone or my last nerve a mention in here, but that would be impossible. And the rest of it is pretty much nonsense, like the OS itself, but maybe if you read between the lines…Hope you enjoy it and be sure to read the background info about the song in the bottom comments. Got Write?
Finding Am I Right
Read up on their views
And nothing funner than this site

Mind you they can write
Them dudes cut it loose
We got the punners who are bright

Writing by moonlight
Kept up, I produce
Another pun or two tonight

Old Man Ribber, squibber grinning at mad-libbers,
has a keen gauge where it's at
Busting humps of the chumps who are jumping on their stumps,
and talking through their hats
And I told her I was older, dealin' me cold shoulder,
I skipped the scary throw down
Then this voter was cheesin', squeezin' threes in,
the catastrophe rationed me frowns

The catastrophe rationed me frowns

But it was...
Fine on Am I Right
Get lip, some abuse
But just what comes from Left and Right

Minding what you write
Let up, strike your ruse
Big Brother Chucky you'll invite

Sign-on Am I Right
Cut up like you’re loose
A little fun for you tonight

Rhyming is our rite
Yet pace, like the noose
Can be what does us in, it bites

Some Fiddlegirl sister with ad-mi-r-ing misters,
showed me her work was first rate
She said it’s lots of fun honey, this spoofing songs,
plays along with the people great
And John A. Barry was checking out the scary part,
"Screaming" out five "Spells" each night
And little troll he roll me, lame; why does he poll me solely,
and trashed me! What I needed: insight

Trashed me! What I needed: insight

But he was...
Blight of Am I Right
What's up with this dude?
Another "one-er" in the night

Finding Am I Right
We're not down and we always got write
We’re gonna make it; spoof tonight
We’re gonna make it; spoof tonight

What drama! That's flair; the pun biz!

What drama! That's flair; the pun biz!

Drama always holds me, caught new look into the guise of the pun
What drama! That's flair; the pun biz!

Some slick odes, Alvin Rhodes, anti-one-vote broken code,
features funny feast
Air-farce-one, he gets it done, hits us with another one,
spoofs the song expected least
And some Guy who's full of wry, deftly jabs so clever,
certainly does enhance
And some dethroned cyclone, just guessin' gettin' over-blown,
misguided and loves to dance

His philosophy fashioned by clowns

But he was...
Finding all the fights
Hyped up by his views
Another bummer on this site

Trying to buy time
Looked up rhyme for deuce
Have no excuse for missing rhyme

[Sections (1) and (2) are sung simultaneously]

(1)
Finding the first write
Penned up by the Bruce
The only Springsteen I'll recite

While he wrote this line:
“Cut loose like a deuce”
Was not a “revved up” deuce like mine

Manfred did re-write
“Revved up like a ‘douche’"
Another “Can that word be right?”

Bruce just laughed, made light
Said “douche” cut song loose
Made Manfred’s number one, that’s right

My I’m ram-bling quite
Forgive my abuse
I love the trivial delights

Sighting Vegas lights
Get bus called “The Deuce”
It’s double decker, runs all night

Seven in my sights
Big set is the juice
Another song knocked out tonight

Why'd I type all night?

(2)
Bad pun bummer, dumber than a stupid plumber,
with a mean case of butt crack
Takin’ lumps from the grumps and the convalescent chumps,
who say that he’s a hack
Getting bolder as I’m older feeling kinda colder,
I lipped contrary and frowned
With a very appeasin’ reason for teasin’
the catastrophe quickly unwound

Mark Scott(i) fires a wingshot, then he finds the latest plot
and throws his gauntlet in the sand
And some crackpot (look out he’s hot) hopin’ for a clear shot,
spittin’ buckshot burned up his hand
One silly lone mister and he managed my sister,
told me about this cool place
He said their songs are so funny, you can’t go wrong

We're not down and we always got write
We're gonna make it; spoof tonight

This information is from songfacts.com: (my comments in parenthesis)

Springsteen talked about this song in detail on an episode of VH1 Storytellers. A lot of the references are personal, to include people he knew or had met on the Boardwalks, or had grown up around, or were just direct personal references to himself:

Madman drummers bummers - Vinnie "Mad dog" Lopez, the first drummer in the E Street Band.

Indians in the summer - Bruce's little league baseball team as a kid. (and also my LL team as a kid, lol)

In the dumps with the mumps - being sick with the mumps.

Boulder on my shoulder - a "chip" on his shoulder.

Some all hot, half-shot, heading for a hot spot, snapping fingers clapping his hands - Being a "know it all kid growing up, who doesn't really know anything." (isn't that pretty much all kids?)

"Silicone Sister" - Bruce mentions that this is arguably the first mention of breast implants in popular music - a dancer at one of the local strip joints in Asbury Park.

He wrote this song in his bedroom, primarily using a rhyming dictionary. Or as Bruce put it, "the rhyming dictionary was on fire." (and methinks the weed or some other substance afire as well)

This was Springsteen's first single. It was released only in the US, where it flopped. It was, however, a #1 hit for Manfred Mann's Earth Band in 1976. Their version was much more elaborately produced, and Springsteen hated it at first.

Manfred Mann's version replaces the line "Cut loose like a deuce" with "Revved up like a deuce." In their version, "Deuce" was commonly misheard as "Douche." Springsteen's original line makes a lot more sense - a deuce is a 1932 Ford hotrod. On his Storytellers special, Springsteen said (in a jesting manner) that the only reason Manfred Mann's version went #1 was because they said "Douche" instead of "Deuce."

(And that, as Paul Harvey used to say, is the rest of the story.)

Great job, Blackjack, and I have to ask: which one was me? I know I wasn't mentioned by name, but the "dethroned cyclone" and "crackpot spittin' buckshot" sounded like me. 5s.

A tour de force, Blackjack. Thanks for the mention!

Great write! But--how the heck did you guess my nick' is 'Silicone Sister'?
metaphorsbwithu - August 21, 2009 - Report this comment
Although I was aware of the Manfred Mann version, I had to go back to my Greetings from Asbury Park to verify Bruce wasn't as loose in his pronunciation of "deuce" as Manny was. Most excellently done!

Quite an achievement...rhyming and timing seems very good...thanks for mention, even tho' you made a slight error in my pseudo-name...it's AirFarceWon..instead of One...but that's minor..

Andria: Thanks, the one that's you is: whichever one you want it to be. ;-)

CC: Thanks for checking in, uum, who are you? :-)

DJ: Thanks, and if it makes you feel any better your name was in the rough draft but didn't make the final version. ;-)

John Barry: Thanks, and don't mention it. ;-)

TJC: Thanks, but....there was a "Fiddlegirl sister" and a "silly lone mister" but no "Silicone Sister." Is there, um...something you need to tell us? :-D

Wow! Thank you for the plug. You have us down well, and the song is a pleasure. As Manfred Mann himself might have said about us "You ain't seen nothing like the Mighty Grin" ;D

Thanks for including me in the mix! This was a masterpiece of both tribute and triumphs of the AMIRIGHTERS!!!!

Wow! You seriously had my name in the rough draft?! Awesome! Too bad it didn't make it... still, thanks for the mention.

Didn't see my comment pop up here initially when I entered it(so: I resubmit): Thanks for including me in the mix! This was a masterpiece of both tribute and triumphs of the AMIRIGHTERS!!!!

Great anthem for AmIRight! All hail to all parodists who put their hard work into their parodies! One of these days I'm going to write another AmIRight parody anthem of my own! It's all good! 5's!

Ad-mi-r-in' YOU, Mister! Fabulous writing... :D

Very clever idea -- tough OS to parody, and yes, some of the other "majors" are easier -- but doing a bio-tribute was superb. 555+++

You've also just had your first demonstration of what monstrous egos lie behind those parodic minds. -- 111 to those who whined. Having done probably more tributes than anyone else on site (everyone else put together? maybe), you should know that it isn't always easy to work in someone's nick, much less their songs or factoids about them, while still pacing, rhyming, and sticking to your theme. No offense taken here at all. (but will casually mention that this writer's stab at OS was prob the most borderline parody here, at least among the B7, and was rejected the first time. No plug -- you know how to find it, should you like)

Ribber: A Mighty Grin for your comments. :-D

Mark Scott(i): Thanks for the kind words and I like the direction your parodies have gone the last few weeks, keep hammerin'.

DJ: "And DJ Blaze away, doing things his own way..." Your line was ultimately the victim of rhyme scheme. Tribs are tricky things.

Christie MM: Thanks, I second your hail to all the hard-working parodists! They are the ones, named and unnamed, who make tributes like this possible.

FG Sister: Thanks girl, just trying to keep up with your high standards. ;-)

TT: Thanks for vote of confidence, I wish I would have squeezed a turtle in there somewhere, but you know how it is. I think the "whining" was done in jest, at least that's the way I took it. That's the downside of a wide-spread trib, someone will always feel left out.
DJ Blaze - August 21, 2009 - Report this comment
That sounds like a cool line that describes me perfectly. Too bad it fell victim to rhyme scheme.

That was weird, two comments appeared in between the previous comments, and they were:

metaphors: Thanks for the comment. When I was a kid I thought MM said "Rhett looks like a douche" :-D

AFW: I am mortified! I'm very sorry, I knew it was Won. It's that damn airplane that O. rides around in! ;-D It's not minor to me, is there any way to get it corrected? Again, I apologize for the screw-up.

A♠ J♠ - Well done and only four to go? BBTL was a song I wanted to do for the longest time but just could never figure anything to do with it and of the Big 7, for me was surprizingly easy to write. I did it from start to submission in just over three hours. The parody that gave me the most trouble ever and this was written before there was or before I knew about the Big 7 was the Major General's song. I think it took me over 3 days to write it. I remember the comment Stu McArthur made when he posted BBTL to exclaim that this was number seven for him. I don't know if he was exagerating or not but he declared in top comment section that it took him somewhere around 53 days to write it. Knowing Stu, I doubt it, but one never knows. "Be Our Guest" must have been the 2nd hardest. Bo Rhap was done when I found the site and dumped 10 parodies on it on May 26, 2003. I have since Bo Rhap so many times since. And thanks mentioning me in your write. This was not too bad and it counts toward the Big 7 - so good luck with the rest. Hope to see you become a member soon. High 5s for a tough write.
