The Lyrics

I can't help wondering what Bruce Springsteen was smoking when he wrote the original lyrics. By the way, Rid is an anti-lice shampoo, and the solution at the bottom really works!
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice

What a bad case, sad face - she was in such a mad place, infestation made her moan
And at ten, she cried when they struck again and again, her head a battle zone
So her mother and her brother and I sought another solution that we could try
Other than all the tweezin', freezin and squeezin, plus ten brands of shampoo we did buy
Plus ten brands of shampoo we did buy

And she was...
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice

When our airhead neighbor saw us doing our labor, she said "Cut off all her hair"
The poor girl overheard what we had talked about - with a pout said "You won't go there!"
And Nanny Franny was checkin' out her scalp to see how hard the bugs were on the kid
And druggist Hillbrand Millfand looked up from pills and bills and then he asked me if I needed some Rid
Asked me if I needed some Rid

And she was...
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice

'Til she was cured, she had to stay home
So even school looked kind of nice
So even school looked kind of nice
"But Honey, that's where the nits are!"
"But Honey, that's where the nits are!"
Daddy always told her "Sharing combs with friends is always the pits"
Cause he knew that's where the nits are

We washed clothes, landed blows when nits arose, tried all sorts of stuff
Every one was soon undone - "When can we all have some fun?" - 'cause we all had had enough
Then at last we found the key, we never would have guessed it, the answer was such a snap
We felt unclean, so mean, but smeared her head with vaseline, topped with a big shower cap
No more brands of shampoo did we buy

And she was...
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice
Blighted by the lice -- fresh out of ideas, we sure could use some good advice

5-5-5 True perfection! But, I'm beginning to realise that I'm giving all 5s out to too many people. THIS really deserves it! I think I will be stingier in future. This is a great parody!

And look at the ads to the right.

Mari D - Gotta run, didn't have time to read it today. Will do when I'm up North. See you on the 8th. Bye.

Thanks, Jude, Paul, and Johnny -- and happy 2004 to everyone! Johnny, it sounds like you have some inside information.

I've heard a couple of people say that "Blinded By the Light" may be the hardest song to parody. I doubt that it can be done any better than this. Great job, MAD.

Original idea. Funny execution.

Thanks, Spaff & Agri! I think that "Blinded by the Light" may be the second hardest parody to do. "Lose Yourself" would be my choice for first, since I still haven't finished it...

God I have always hated that ****ing song.

Loved the parody, hate the original. 5's all around

Mari D - Hmmm...never DID get around to checking this one out while up North (shame on me for promising more than I could deliver). I guess I'll wait now since it's in the Tournament and post my vote on it at the same time. Looks like tough stuff....

I liked the parody too, but hated the song...a big improvement.

I think that there were a few imperfections with pacing and rhyming. For example, the last of the original had all those words rhyme with "zone," and while you had just as many rhymes, you had more different rhymes. Anyway, when I factor in the degree of difficulty, this parody is quite an accomplishment.

The idea of hybriding "Blinded by the Light" with lice shampoo is hilarious! I thought that this was the perfect parody. All 5's!

LOL!~Mucho kudos-- for your original use of topic. The treatment advice is priceless. You told a good story from a parent's point of view, and made it fun. Children +outbreak= nits happen!
=D

Mari D - Really great job! 555.

This parody itched for three 5s and it scratched for them. To Mari D, the hardest song to parody was Dylan's Desolation Row, not Lose Yourself

No nits to pick here; great stuff

Thanks, all! We went through this with my stepkids; what a pain in the ass! That vaseline remedy really works, although it takes at least a week to get it out of one's hair. Zone? Hmmm, I'll have to read the original again. Now I'm going to have to listen to "Desolation Row" (not familiar with it).

DIva - Somehow I missed this one when it posted. I must say well done. I like the freshness and the originality. This parody was genius. Good luck in round 2.

Really creative and excellent pacing. I came across this when I was trying to think of an idea for this song, but being the slacker that I am, I forgot to comment... well, let me say excellent job. I finished mine a couple of weeks ago and it ended up being about dentistry. Check it out if you're interested. And good luck in the tournament. http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/manfredmann4.shtml
