The Lyrics

A song all about driving hazards, from looking at those ultra-bright blue-tinted xenon headlights, to cops, cell phones, bad drivers and worn-out brakes. Another car-themed parody from the Wannabe Mustang Jockey!
Blinded by headlights,
Lit up by the blue
Tint of the xenons in the night
Blinded by headlights,
Flipped on by a huge
Ford Expedition on the right
Blinded by headlights,
Left on by the loser
In the Bimmer just behind

Madcap dumber bummers,
Soccer moms in Hummers with their teenage kids and aunt
And the trucks flinging muck as they head off to the dump weaving all this way and that
Pass a boulder on the shoulder, see it kinda molder,
In traffic as the rain falls
And the black ice and puddles, muddled, befuddled,
Watch me hydroplane into the wall
(Watch me hydroplane into the wall)

"Cause I was...
Blinded by headlights,
flipped up by a coupe
that tried to pass me on the right
Blinded by headlights,
Intense xenon blues
A brand-new Acura behind
Blinded by headlights,
BMW,
A 745Li
Blinded by headlights,
Just out for a cruise,
But please, adjust the dumb things right

Some cellular chatter with her meaningless banter
told me to stick it up mine
She said, "A word to you, sonny, I'll drive MY way,"
(She can't keep her car in the lines)
Some ragtop rich fop was checkin' for a highway cop to see if it was safe to speed
And little Jimmy Farrow lost control of his Camaro and launched the car off into the weeds
(Launched the car off into the weeds)

"Cause he was...
Blinded by headlights, That lavender hue
Was causing pain to both his eyes
Blinded by headlights

He spun out but he got back on alright
He's gonna make it home tonight
He's gonna make it home tonight

[traffic noises sound through instrumental]

But mama, that's where the truck is
But mama, that's where the truck is
Mama always told me not to look into the oncoming lanes
But mama, that's where the truck is!

[more traffic sounds]

Some cocky and talky ol' throttle jockey fan of "Rocky" redneck from the Heights
Collided with a lady's one-hundred-grand Mercedes
Equipped with those blue xenon lights
And some cell-phone monotone was sittin' at the corner,
hoping the light would turn green
In his two-tone Scorpio, while messin' with his radio,
the light turned and he didn't see.
(Holding up half the traffic in town)

Then he was...
Blinded by headlights,
Flipped off by some dude
Who had been waiting to turn right
Blinded by headlights,
Ford truck (SuperCrew),
About eleven feet in height
Blinded by headlights,
A hot-rodded "Deuce"
"32 highboy hugs the line
Blinded by headlights,
A black "62
Chevy Impala on the rise
Blinded by headlights,
Buick Rendezvous,
A businessman late for his flight
Blinded by headlights,
A red MR2,
That thing was flying like a kite
Blinded by headlights,
A green Saturn Vue,
A couple going out tonight
Blinded by headlights,
Corvette coming through
Police pursuing just behind
Blinded by headlights,
This time red and blue,
The cops going a hundred nine
(Blinded by headlights)

Madman thumper dumpers, Smokey's on your bumper in his old Dodge Diplomat
And the chumps kind of jump as they hit a nasty bump in their Buick Wildcat
Feeling bolder as it's colder, wond'ring if I oughta,
I put the gas pedal down
Passed a beige-colored Prius, prayin' to Jesus,
That she'll find her way back into town

Now Scott tried to slingshot right past an undercover cop and rolled it over, broke his hand
And some bloodshot drunk they caught at twice the legal limit thought "want moonshine?"
[and] pulled down his pants
My gearhead employer and her husband, a lawyer, told me I gotta get brakes
She said "I'll help you out sonny, you've done it wrong"

It slows down, but I'm gonna need tires
I've gotta make it home tonight

Well you certainately spent a lot of time tuning this parody up, good job 5's.

I LOVE BBTL parodies and admire anyone who has the nerve and patience to tackle this most soul-destroying of OS's...and you did a CRACKING job of it. 555

I've said it before and I'll say it again...HO. LY. *beeeeeeeeeeep* I honestly don't know how you can do it. Yeah, I've done some tough OSes in my day but I can't comprehend how you're only 2 years my senior and have already done We Didn't Start The Fire and Blinded By The Light. And now that I'm stuck in summer school Driver's Ed I finally know what all this stuff means! TMGLTM as usual. (And thanks for ruining my chances for SOTM AGAIN...bastard.)

Super, wannabetc. Beautifully constructed, with some excellent subs for OS - loved the "Some ragtop rich fop.." line.

555 for you, wannabemustangjockey --- you've done a fantastic job here, and I know how difficult it is to parody BBTL --- a while back, I posted my own BBTL parody which I titled "Blinded By Head-Lights":

Chucky G's comment-posting-software inserted a hidden " - " hyphen-character between "earth" and "band" in that URL listed in my previous comment --- when you cut-and-paste that URL into your browser, you'll need to manually delete that bogus " - " character before the pasted URL will work.

SOTM - Here's an idea for a follow up to this excellent paced parody: TOS: "Take my breath away" (either the original from the movie "Top Gun" or the cover by Jessica Simpson) as "Tow that/your/my car away" or "Pimp that car, OK" or something like that. :-)

very involved excellent job

K1chyd - How about "Towed My Vette Away"? Thanks for the idea; I would never have thought about that song otherwise.

(SOMT) Only one very small quibble first: In the verse where Bruce pulls an Eminem (20+ years before Eminem, but....) in the verse with the rhymes with "stone", it would have been nice had you followed suit, and kept the rhyming the same throughout. However, that doesn't detract at all from the perfect pacing all the way, and also TMGLTM. Since you like hard songs, I would challenge you to Charlie Daniels Band' "Uneasy Rider", but a driving theme has already been done to that song (see "SUV Driver"; I think you'll enjoy it). 555.

(SOTM) amazing - this must have taken a long while, Jay. I've been trying to get to second base on a Blinded By The Light parody for a year with no success (big scalp too, being one of the "Big Seven") - but this was brilliant. pity I know nothing about cars, or I would have appreciated it even more - 555

(SOTM) Top notch pacing there, man. Hopefully you got more warning than what most of us get on the highway...what most of us get is "Mind that bus!" "What bus?" SPLAT!

SOTM...excellent...EXCELLENT. I'm more scared of this OS than I have been of any other...and you did an amazing job of it. Lots of fun lines and just wonderful all over!

(SOTY) Wowsers. First time reading. I thought such a topic would be boring, but the word choices were absolutely killer. I'm like a deer caught in the headlights of this glowing parody! Here's another 555 to give you an even 20.

(SOTY) Absolutely fantastic, and Wannabemustangjockey, my favorite by you yet. . .I realize this was a SOTM at some point. . .but keep in mind to me it's brand new as I didn't become part of AmIRight until December 2006. . .this one is absolutely fantastic, 4 read though and 35 to go (well I guess 34 since one of them is my own). . .this is going to be a tough tough comp for me.

(SOTY) Wannabe, you're like the Bruce Springsteen of parody with all of your car themed gems. I must say that this one is by far my favorite of yours. :-)

(SOTY) Just a little comment...this parody is now even more timely for me as I'm still slogging my way through my 50 hours toward my license (ugh) and people who forget to turn their brights off is one of my biggest-EVER pet peeves, aside from people who switch lanes without signaling. Still a phenomenal read, WMJ.
Red Ant - March 23, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTY) See above, but upon rereading I really enjoyed the "Watch me hydroplane into the wall" line too. Masterful work on a tough OS, and more kudos for changing up the chorus lines.
