Original Song Title:

"Ramblin' Fever"

Original Performer:

Merle Haggard

Parody Song Title:

"Palin Fever"

Parody Written by:

Bob Beckley

The Lyrics

She don't put up with a bad bill for long
The list of pork she's killed goes on and on
No bridge, no jet, no chef, she's pit bull tough
And she's a darn good gov
Oh, I've got Palin fever in my blood

Caught this Palin fever from TV
When I first heard her speak at RNC
If someone said she cares and gives a damn
Man, they damn sure told you right
I've got Palin fever day and night

(Chorus):
Palin fever
The kind that can be measured in the polls
Palin fever
The best way you can treat it is to vote

There's times she likes to relax and go fishin'
Or hunt some big ol' moose and stew it up
She spends a lot of fun time with her fam'ly
Talkin' about what's right in life and love

But she don't let convention tie her down
She shatters those glass ceilings in a bound
She's gonna win big in November, can't wait to see
Our hockey mom V.P.
God bless Palin fever sea to sea

(Chorus):
Palin fever
The kind that can be measured in the polls
Palin fever
The best way you can treat it is to vote

Palin fever

Palin fever

Palin fever

With her as running mate McCain might actually win.

You know I'm not strong supporting on either side as is typical with me, but what is with the lies/half truths? Pork she's killed? What? Million Dollar Bridge to Nowhere SHE approved? What pork has she killed, I know of pork she's created (and I don't mean her hunting ability) I know of none she's killed. That may be a claim McCain can sorta argue--but Palin? Maybe that's where the 'fever' comes from--misunderstanding facts. I'm not excited over this years election, but I am so sick of reading factless stuff on both sides of the aisle. . .

I guess it's natural not to be able to separate the politics from the parody.

I don't know where you think that content is irrelevant in a parody, anyone can rhyme words or fit words in a sentence (see misheard lyrics) that doesn't necessairly make it a good parody. I choose not to vote on parodies like this because my opinion differs too much, but don't expect people to separate politics from parodies when the parody is about politics.

Dave, I never said content is irrelevant. I just expressed my opinion that it's not as important as form, especially in light of the fact that good content is so much harder to pin down than good form. And that's because content is more subjective and form more objective in nature. My main reason for commenting, however, is that I do expect people to separate politics from parodies when the parody is about politics. It probably won't happen, LOL, but it sure would be refreshing.

By asking someone to 'separate politics from parodies when the parody is about politics' you are asking for someone not judge the content itself. I mean, that's not only difficult, but kinda without point. I mean if someone wrote a parody praising pedophilia on this site, I don't think it'd be fair for that person to expect us to separate pedophila from his parody when judging it (I know that example is extreme-but I'm just putting things into perspective). If someone releases a parody thrashing the existence of religion, would it be unfair to those who have different opinion to voice it? Or those who support the opinion to support it? I mean when you release a parody of this nature--asking one not to consider 'politics' when that is what the song is about is like asking someone to only consider the rhyme scheme, in essence if I separate politics from this parody--there is no parody--and I can't listen and read a parody where I disagree with the opinion expressed and give an approving comment, that's lying, and I am an honest person in my commentary and passionate one. . .Your right--it probably won't happen, and for the sake of healthy debate, education and discussion I hope it doesn't happen.
