The Lyrics

An item in the Los Angeles Times is the inspiration for this parody. A man was driving through Los Angeles in his pickup unaware that there was an albatross on top. People spotted him and the bird was taken to San Pedro where he was released into the sea.
I'm an albatross and I'm okay
I live at sea and I fly all day.

I'm a fisherman from East L.A.
I schlep all night and I work all day.

ALBATROSS: I roam the sea, I feed on shrimp
The world's my lavat'ry
On Wedensdays I go swoopin'
On yachts for scones and tea.

FISHERMAN: I haul in nets, I clean then the fish
I pay for the lavat'ry
On Wedensdays I go cruisin'
And raid av'cado trees.

He's a fisherman and he's okay
He schleps all night and he sleeps all day.

ALBATROSS: I land on ships, I hop on cars
I ride on the freeway
I hitch a ride on Bentleys
To Hollywood soirees.

FISHERMAN: I drive my truck, I pay for gas
I live in East L.A..
I dine on guacamole
And watch the Dodgers play.

He's an albatross and he's okay
He lives at sea and he flies all day.

ALBATROSS: Don't clip my wings. If I'm not free
The sailors would be lost
I'm proud to be a birdie
I am an albatross.

FISHERMAN: He weighs a ton so watch your back
When e'er he flies across
I wish I was a birdie
Just like the albatross.

This is quite clever. When I wrote a song called "Albatross", I didn't even use any words.

But I thought you were so rugged!
Barry J. Mitchel - March 27, 2012 - Report this comment
"I clean then the fish" has an extra syllable, while "On yachts for scones and tea" is one shy, both easily fixable. Otherwise precise and very funny, 455.

If I were Democrat, I'd note a similarity to Mitt Romney's cartop dog carrier.

Lord 2Ease, Le Marquis d' a-Vocado, great line about East L.A. Sir !! . . . " Hey, Mon, I was born in East L.A." . . That was a very funny movie!!

Thanks, Tokerville - Was that with Cheech and Chong? I thought of them when I wrote this parody.

Lord 2Ease, I believe that it was Cheech minus Chong ? . . . PS: I love the way you always include an "aVocado" in your poems, Sir ! . . . so very soCAL, Eh?

Thanks, Lily - I was thinking of "Born in East L.A.". That was by Cheech and Chong. Yes, I live on avocados. Where would I be without them?

Lord 2Ease, you might try 'kiwi' too! SummerWinds has the Vincent 'female' vine for $17 each; only one male is required to polinate an entire street of females for $70. The vines are easy to grow, and you will have frrrrresh Kiwi/Lime pie by October, Sir ! !

Thanks, Lily (Marlene?) - I tried growing kiwis and didn't have much success. Maybe the climate isn't right in my area.
