The Lyrics

Another musical giant passed away recently. Not sure if he would have considered this a tribute.
Too late, Coast Guard
Ain't no cutter fast
Ain't no chopper low
Ain't no airplane near enough, buddy

If you hear me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Fitz is the name
Just get here in a hurry
I'm starting to worry
'Cause buddy

There ain't no trawler fast enough
Ain't no chopper big enough
Ain't no tanker near enough
To get here and rescue the crew

Set sail that day
Last trip that fall
I knew then
Couldn't count on no help at all
The waves were crashing too high now
Can't be there when we need you
No way, no how
No Coast Guard

There ain't no life boat wide enough
Ain't no life vest tough enough
Ain't no swimmer strong enough
To save even one of the crew

The wind, the rain
I won't stay alive
The hurricane starts
We're too many miles apart
I could surely use a helping hand
You'd be here on the double
As fast as you can
But I know that

The waves are way too high right now
Rain is way too dense right now
Lightning too intense right now
To let you get through to us

We both know that

The waves are way too high right now
Storm is too intense right now
Cutter isn't close enough

I knew there had to be a reason. JB, this may be the first day since March without "I Put a Spell on You".

Patrick, unfortunately, I plan to remedy that situation tomorrow.

I've avoided, so far, using "Spell" in my "Edmund Fitz" series. Are you giving me a hint about tomorrow's entry?

I knew that Ashford and Simpson were a songwriting and performing married couple team but I didn't know they wrote so many hits for others too. Their partnership and marriage lasted until death did they part - now that's special! - their love was truly Solid As A Rock and it was hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-HAWT. You gave a wonderful tribute here to a great writer / musician who never hogged the limelight yet made his in a big way.
