Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

for the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers and their fans
(police sirens, one after another)

Once there was a game on the outskirts of Detroit
Back in the USA, past the Election Day.

In the heat of a losing game
In the land of the auto mill
When the town of Detroit died
And they talk about it still:
When a man named Ron Artest
Made that b-ball game a mess,
And he led his team to war
With the Piston fans and more.

We saw Ben Wallace fly.
We saw him shove, the night Detroit died.
Brother what a night it really was!
Brother what a fight it really was!
Glory be!
We saw Steve Jackson fly
We saw him punch, the night Detroit died.
Brother what a night of free-for-all!
Brother what a night of basket-brawl!
Yes indeed!

And the sound of the battle rang
Through the court and the bleachers, too,
And a bunch of the hoodlum fans
Threw their soda and their brew.
And we saw Jermaine O'Neal
Punch a fan and make him reel.
And we heard disturbing news:
'Bout a dozen fans were bruised.

Yes indeed!

And the game they had to call
On account of basket-brawl.
David Stern's mouth opened wide
And he kicked Artest aside.
He's suspended for a year.
You can buy his CD here.

The night Detroit died.
Na-na-na, na-na-na, na-NA-na-NA-na-na!
The night Detroit died.
Brother what a night it really was!
Brother what a fight it really was!
Glory be!
The night Detroit died.
Na-na-na, na-na-na, na-NA-na-NA-na-na!
The night Detroit died.
Brother what a night of free-for-all!
Brother what a night of basket-brawl!
Yes indeed!
MNL, Queens, NYCD: Blood Thicker Than Water, Volume 1--Infamous Mobb (featuring Ron Artest)I don't think this is the CD but this will do for now. (BTW, my family lived for a time in the Queensbridge Projects!)

I'd say, wait till Artest's CD comes out and parody some of the material, but I'm guessing it'll be crap beyond parody.

Great topical parody. Love the chorus, and the CD reference fit in great.

Pretty much sums up what happened, and I'm a lifelong Pacer fan who was born in the city where they race cars. That does not mean I am proud of my team or what happened in the town where they make cars. I'm very disappointed in my team, in fact. -- MM
