Original Song Title:

"Mull of Kintyre"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Paul McCartney

Parody Song Title:

"Paul's Biggest Hit"

Parody Written by:

Tim Hall

The Lyrics

This is a tribute to non-US Beatles trivia
Paul's biggest hit, was not written by him at all
It was a traditional Scottish folk song
The Mull of Kintyre

Paul he has written a whole lot of hits
The Beatles and Wings were his mountains and pits
At home in Scotland, his mind caught on fire
His biggest single was the Mull of Kintyre

Paul's biggest hit, was not written by him at all
It was a traditional Scottish folk song
The Mull of Kintyre

Everywhere but in the United States
This single it sold at such record rates
Hearing the bagpipes that were meant to inspire
Paul McCartney to record the Mull of Kintyre

Paul's biggest hit, was not written by him at all
It was a traditional Scottish folk song
The Mull of Kintyre

It was a B side With A Little Luck
Felt like it was hidden in the back of a truck
Hearing this song means that I'm not a liar
Because Paul had recorded the Mull of Kintyre

Paul's biggest hit, was not written by him at all
It was a traditional Scottish folk song
The Mull of Kintyre

Mull of Kintyre...

Actually, if you've read any interviews with Denny or Jojo Laine, (his ex-wife)they claim Denny wrote a good portion and never got credit.

Rick, I had a feeling you'd come by this tune. Have a great day!

Hmmm.... Mull of Kintyre is the only Paul song I like. Now I find out he didn't write the lyrics! Makes sense now! ;-)

I received an e-mail from Boston Kane (whose mother is Jojo Laine) and Boston explained about the writing of this song by Denny.

Denny Laine did write a lot of the lyrics for this song and IS credited on the sheet music (at least he is in Australia). Mull Of Kintyre is NOT a traditional Scottish tune. Mull Of Kintyre came into existence as the direct result of a bet. An Australian band, ACDC, had a hit single "It's A Long Way To The Top" which featured the bagpipes. Someone bet McCartney that he couldn't write a number one selling song also featuring the pipes. McCartney won the bet.

My Father used to sing the first verse of Mull of Kintyre in the 50s, long before Sir Paul and Denny are credited with writing it. They may have added verses. When I first heard Wings version I was able to sing along immediately.
