Parody Song Title:

"Live or Let Die"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

About the ridiculousness of the Terri Schaivo cable news saga.
When you were young and the press was not full of crooks
They used to have stories to give
(you know they did, you know they did, you know they did)
But this cable news network world in which we're living
Lets the media guys
Play "live or let die"
Live or let die
Live or let die
Live or let die

(musical interlude)

They've got spines made of jello
Their journalism is yellow and their ethics smell
Won't take it anymore; I'm mad as hell!

(musical interlude)

They used to have stories to give
(you know they did, you know they did, you know they did)
But in this CNN/Fox News age which we're livin'
The media's war cry
Is "Live or let die!"
"Live or let die!"
"Live or let die!"
"Live or let die!"

Charlie, Isn't it sad that this is what it has boiled down to.
Airfarcewon - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
Very well put, Charlie...It's a tragedy all the way around..
Johnny D - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
Freedom of the press includes the freedom of the press to suck hard...sad, but the alternative (no press freedom at all) is even worse. Good job, Charlie.

It is truly sad that it has boiled down this. However, You're correct, Johnny. It is the right of the press to suck. I just wish that they wouldn't. Thanks for the Kudos, everybody.

Makes me wonder what those jellyfish use as brains. Certainly, compassion is not figured into this case. You put it good, Charlie.

I grew up in a journalism family, and I saw firsthand how the training of reporters went from "what are the facts" to "what do you feel about this". So much of today's "reporting" is just getting quotes from people on opposite sides of an issue, with the reporter then making some type of snide remark at the end to let you know which side is the "right" one. Aargh! Good work, CD.

You know why TV is called a "medium"? Because it's rarely well-done. You summed it up perfectly, Charlie.

Strong parody, CD.
Kat - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
If Terri's responding, why are they killing her?
Michael Pacholek - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
AFW: It's gone past tragedy to travesty. After all, Jesse Jackson has joined with Randall Terry -- his worst nightmare? John Barry: Fred Allen told that joke 50 years ago, but it's sadly more true than ever. And he wasn't talking about news. Kat: Terri is not responding. Terri died in 1990. Whatever is in that bed stopped being Terri when the smart George Bush was in the White House.
Charlie Decker - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
Yeah, Michael is right as usual. On an more lighthearted aside, my mother's name is also Terri, with the rare spelling with an 'i' at the end. A headline from the NY Post last week reading "Terri's Doomed" has earned a place on honor on our fridge.

Journalism, once respectable is generally deplorable now. However your 15 minutes of fame are not up.

My 15 minutes of fame haven't begun. You ain't seen nothin' yet!

Charlie: I've got a Post with a headline: "MIKE P.: I'M NOT GAY!" It was about Piazza. Of course, my favorite Post headline of all time was June 23, 1990, with Bush Sr. on the cover: "READ MY LIPS: I LIED!" A close second: "KERRY'S CHOICE: It's Gephardt." Typical Post.
Charlie Decker - March 30, 2005 - Report this comment
Oh my god...I had the Mike P. Headline taped to my locker at school for like 3 weeks! No joke! I thought it was the funniest thing in the world that he needed to have a press conference to tell us that he wasn't gay.

Michael Pacholek...if Terri died in the 90s, why do they have to kill her again?
Red Ant - April 01, 2005 - Report this comment
She died yesteday I believe.

Charlie, missed this when you posted it...(that was during the "March Madness" of my occupation...working for an Income Tax Software company in Tax Analysis and Product Support). I generally steered clear of this topic because I was completely disgusted at the political posturing/grandstanding AND the way the Media not only went along for that phony-assed farce of a ride but egged it on and pushed it forward. A pox on every public person or figure who tried to "game" this situation...a personal family tragedy that had no business ending up on the legislative agenda of the Congress of the United States of America. Each of you can judge on your own just who I am referring to and why. Yeah, this comment is about 4 months late and so it's pretty much just passing wind - but I never vented about this absurdity when it was happening...better late than never...So, where am I? Oh, yeah...Ahh...the one COGENT statement about the whole thing, and it was all yours, Charlie...nice job...lots of bon mots for you from me...5's ~ ~ ~
