The Lyrics

To celebrate my twenty-fifth parody here at amiright I decided to tackle the ubiquitous uber-anthem of parody. Even Homer Simpson himself has paid tribute to the Granddaddy of prime-time animation, Fred Flintstone. So I made the mistake of crossing the 'Stones and Queen. If you have any functioning brain cells do NOT read this parody. My last one died about the time Gazoo shows up . . .
Is this a modern
or stone-age family?
They live in Bedrock,
A page right out of history.
Meet Fred Flintstone, a Ralph Kramden clone, B.C.!

Fred is a cool boy.
His best friend is Barney.
(He works for Mister Slate, pushing rocks,
Spends his day on the clock.)
When the whistle-bird blows, Yabba Dabba Doo time! He's free!
He's free.

(Fred:)

Wilma.
Please let me in.
Put the cat outside last night,
But I'll never win the fight.
Wilma.
This is just no fun,
That cat has gone and thrown me out again!

Wilma, oo-oo-ooh.
Didn't mean to wake you up,
If I'm not back inside before tomorrow,
Carrion, Carrion . . .
I'll be T-Rex fodder.

Too late.
She's gone to bed.
Sends shivers down my spine,
'Cuz I think it's "nature" time!
Wake up, anybody!! I've got to go!
Gotta pee before my bladder breaks in two!

Wilma, oo-oo-ooh!
I must get inside
to shake that Yabba Dabba Dew off my lilly!

(musical interlude)

I see a little silly green and nerdy man.
Great Gazoo, Great Gazoo will you please wave your wand-o?
Make a little lightning
or I'll spend the night out here!!

Yabba Dabba (Yabba Dabba)
Yabba Dabba (Yabba Dabba)
Yabba Dabba Dabba Doo
Oh Great Gazoo-oo-oo-oo-oo!

(Gazoo:)

I'm just a green nerd! Nobody loves me.

(Fred:)

He's just a green nerd from a far galaxy,
Banned from his world for his atrocities!

(Gazoo:)

Poor dumb-dumb's gotta go!
Will you let him in?

(Fred:)

Miss Wilma! (NO! She will not let me in!)
GOTTA GO!
Miss Wilma! (I wish she'd let me in!)
GOTTA GO!
Miss Wilma! (She's gotta let me in!)
GOTTA GO! (Will ya let me in?)
GOTTA GO!
(Freddy, Freddy, Freddy gotta GO-O-O-O-O!)

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!

Oh help me, Dino! Help me, Dino!
(Help him Dino, let him in!)

Please yelp, ya pup! Help ol' Freddy get inside to pee. To pee. TO PEE!!!!!!

(musical interlude)

So you think Homer Simpson is one funny guy?
So you think you can love him and forget that I
was first 'toon!
Can't deny, I was first 'toon
to get it on prime -
to get it on prime time TV!

(musical interlude)

(Oh yeah, Oh yeah!)

Bart and Futurama,
Owe it all to me.
Hank and Peggy owe it . . .
All the 'toon shows owe it . . .
to me.

(Yabba Dabba Doo time . . .)

Pat, I missed that line first time through. I must have been laughing too hard at another. Thanks for posting that. It was worth the re-read of the song.

Stray - It's your day to shine with this. So glad to see the praise for the great job. You've earned it. As I said this is BR parody as BR parody was meant to be. Again, Extremely well done. Just a few more votes and this one will chart. Come on folks give credit where it is due.

Guy: You are too kind, sir. I've only had a few chart (Downtown 2003 made it all the way to the top spot for a few days) but I do have hopes that this might see a minute or two in the top ten! Even without it, though, this has been a lot of fun! I found out about amiright when I posted a parody on YesterdayLand.com (a wonderful but now defunct nostalgia site) and I wish they were still around so I could share it there. Someone on that site mentioned this one and I am SOOO glad they did! Thanks again for the kind comments and the cheerleading!
Claude Prez - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Outstanding; little bit of irony I have to mention though--In Phil Alexander's "Homerian Rhapsody" he too uses the "carrion, carrion" line AND mentions the Simpsons...coincidence? Well, yes, obviously, but perhaps every great parody is somehow Simpsons-related (perhaps not). Anyway great job here and congrats; I'm predicting this will be around awhile.
Stray Pooch - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Claude. I'm not surprised that "Carrion" has been used before. I will have to check out "Homerian Rhapsody."

Great one Poochie! And I have to mention - your Downtown 2003 parody is my second favorite parody on the whole site!

Meriadoc: Wow! Considering the calibre of some of the artists on this site that is a high honor indeed!! Thank you!

Mr. Pooch, I'm getting a little burnded out on all these Bohemian Rap Sodies, but as you can see, yours came highly recommended. You've earned some Barney-fide Fives. BTW, I used the Flintstones' Theme for my parody "Meet The Finklesteins".

David: Thank you sir! Looks lilke you put me over the hump there! Number 1! YABBA DABBA DOO!!!!!!

Any flintstones parody that can be this good with such a silly narrative behind it and without mentioning 'waterbuffalo' has earned more than 5's from me. Too bad 5 is the limit. Sorry bout the late commenting, I've been busy lately. Really, really clever. Good humor and the line "I'll be T-Rex fodder." is the only line I can find that doesn't fit EXACTLY with the original pacing. Props on everything about this parody.
Robert J. Pagliaro - February 08, 2004 - Report this comment
Excellent. For some reason I think the Flintstones were on during primetime when they first came out.
Stray Pooch - February 09, 2004 - Report this comment
2nz and Robert: Thanks for the comments and votes! 2nz: not to nitpick on a compliment (which I deeply appreciate) but out of curiosity why do you think that does not match? "nothing really matters" is what I hear in the original and "I'll be T-Rex fodder" is similarly six syllables. As to metric foot, "really" is a trochee and "T-Rex" is possibly a spondee. If you are that observant my hat is off to ya!! (And the complment is that much higher!) Or am I just hearing the original wrong? At any rate, that is only interest and not objection. Robert: The 'Stones were indeed prime time TV. That is what I meant in that last verse ("Can't deny I was first 'toon to get it on prime time TV.") Thanks to both of you again!
