Parody Song Title:

"Sailing"

Parody Written by:

Susanna Viljanen

The Lyrics

Sailing is often imagined to be a glamorous thing with fancy fashion clothes, colourful drinks, pompous parties and scantily-clad ladies onboard. The truth is that sailing is 90% boredom, 9% hard work and 1% sheer horror, and while you are not wet and cold, you are exhausted. If you are the skipper, you are also burdened by the responsibility. Added the language difficulties, cultural differences and red tape at foreign harbours.
I am sailing
Wake a-trailing
Through the high seas
night and day
Seas are roaring
This is boring!
Why I ever left
who can say?

I'm still sailing
hope not failing
Dark clouds gather
at western sky
Reef the mainsail
hear the winds wail
at the stays and shrouds
I'm there - why?

Storm has heightened
I am frightened
I'm so lonesome
I could cry -
Boat is lulling
things are falling
off the shelves and stores
Can't keep dry!

Wind is dying
I am frying
chow, I work as
galley slave
Meals are boring
taste ain't scoring
in the Iron Chef
so, to say

Navigating
with that sky-thing
take the bearing
of the Sun -
Where's my sextant?
Is it extant?
Can't find anywhere
this ain't fun!

I'm still sailing
I lean on railing
I'm exhausted
I need sleep
See the landfall
'Twas a close call
I'm just tired and bored
I wan't weep

This is sailing
I'm unveiling
it is hard work
night and day
It is boredom
work and horror
It's no roses and wine
so to say

Susanna - You are so right. Isn't it interesting that nobody has a romanticized view of laboring in a steel mill or running a dairy farm...but everybody who has never worked at sea thinks they know all about it. Fine job! ;D

I wrote a parody, too. It's repetitive, though I am ailing, I am ailing, I am ailing, Ailing! I am ailing, I am ailing, I am ailing, I'm unwell!

Oops! "It's repetitive though" is NOT part of the parody, but for some reason I couldn't get the song separate from my comment. I meant for there to be a space between the parody and my explanation of it.
