The Lyrics

This parody--my 89th on Amiright but first of Rod Stewart--brings together much of my humorous Amiright commentary concerning puppy love stars and blends it with an idea I got whilst reading about the demise of disco. The idea is thus: I was reading about the Disco Demolition Night promotion at the old Comiskey Park when I thought: If Steve Dahl went so far as to demolish records of a godawful genre of music, why couldn't I hold a public demolition of some of the even more godawful Disney CDs--and not only those, but also such artists as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and the Kidz Bop choir? I started a Facebook page to promote the idea of a Disney Demolition Night in the Twin Cities amongst my Facebook friends; if you are interested and you live in or are planning to visit the Twin Cities, be sure to friend me so that I can add you to the Disney Demolition Night group on Facebook. Anyway, I am using the same OS as Steve Dahl did when he wrote his anti-disco anthem "Do Ya Think I'm Disco?"; in that tradition, I hope you like it.
Stanza I.
Tween girls, they scream until their guts will splinter
For both JBs in summer and in winter.
We do refuse to partake of their squealing
'Cos it just means that good bands will be reeling.

Refrain I.
Do ya think I'm Disney? I would rather perish
Than be forced to hear their songs!
Do ya think I'm Disney? I should draw and quarter
All these acts that do much wrong.

Stanza II.
That Taylor Swift, she thinks that she is country;
But when we hear her, we are still quite truth-hungry.
She raps T-Pain and does cover Def Leppard;
She is a thief in the guise of a shepherd.
Play Emmylou or Hank or Alabama,
But no pop-country, such as Hannah Montana.

Refrain II.
Do ya think I'm Disney? Would you say those Jo-Bros
Are rock in reality?
If you heard they're Disney and you heard their music,
With those fan-chicks you'd disagree.

Bridge.
Give me my Rush and my Pink Floyd
Or even Styx and Kansas for that matter.
Get rid of that Radio Disney chatter!

Stanza III.
Kidz Bop takes songs that are already crappy,
Then makes them worse so that I'm never happy.
Oh! how the choir does provoke my ears' bleeding,
Until I can't even do normal eating.
They should be purged with speedy trial and sentence
And then be shot and never more be mentioned.

Refrain III.
If you like this Kidz Bop, you should get your ears checked;
They may have already bled.
If you think I'm lying, you should know music's dying;
In fact, it may be truly dead.

(Ad lib and fade)
Down with Disney!

If I recall the original incident correctly, Steve Dahl took stacks of disco 45 rpm records and inserted fireworks into those large, round center holes, and blew them to pieces. How do you blow up a digital download?
Edward Genereux - July 06, 2011 - Report this comment
You don't blow up a digital download; you blow up a whole iPod of digital downloads. Now, don't quote me on this, but I think the best way would be to strap a rocket to the iPod by wrapping the fuse around the device and the fuse would light up quickly enough to avoid burning the iPod before the detonation.
Patrick - July 06, 2011 - Report this comment
If you strapped an iPod to the rocket tube, the fuze would never contact the payload at all. The fuze would ignite the motor and lift off. The ejection charge will ignite a secondary fuze attached to the main charge. If the delay on this charge is short enough, it should detonate before it has time to eject from the tube, thus fracturing the tube and the iPod. I don't know what an iPod weighs, but you would likely need an E or F size engine, those are rather costly and hard to come by.

This is no Mickey Mouse parody.
