The Lyrics

DKTOS? lyrics here Lyricsfreak This one took a long time, and it ends not so funny, but then again, war aint so funny. It's a 20 minute song, so work your way through it...
i. punditry

And critique shall replace cogent verse

ii Republican Guard

We’ve trained for almost fifteen years
Since George Bush 1 had kicked our rears
We’re ready to protect our motherland
We’ll stand together arm in arm
To keep our country safe from harm
Even through it’s mostly made of sand

We’re the Elite Iraqi ‘Publican Guard
Our thick mustaches make us all look cool
We’re the Elite Iraqi ‘Publican Guard
We all march in step, and fight for Arab rule

Look at all our MiGs and tanks
Our Scud missiles will snuff your ranks
Yes, we hold ourselves in high esteem
We hope one day to bid farewell
And lob a nuke on Israel
Kiss our ass, you Zionist regime!

We’re the Elite Iraqi ‘Publican Guard
Our floppy black hats make us all look tough
We’re the Elite Iraqi ‘Publican Guard
Don’t you piss us off, ‘cause we don’t take no guff

iii. devilry

{Hans Blix}
Where are all the WMDs?
We keep looking, but can’t find a thing
We’ve found tubes and barrels and big rail cars
And lots of deserted buildings

{CIA}
Bush wants to defend his actions
But all we found were piles of junk
Guess we’ll lie about the intel
And just tell him ... that it’s a ... slam dunk

{George Bush}
I can’t wait to send in the Air Force
I’m itching to kick off this fight
But the U.N. keeps debating
We have to convince them we’re right

iv. presentation

{Colon Powell}
I know it’s most unusual
To speak here on the floor
But we’ve found the WMDs
It’s time to go to war

Look at these Sat photos
And see what he has built
We can’t wait for a smoking gun
It’s time that he was killed

{France and Germany}
Yes we know about Saddam
He’s quite a nasty guy
But there’s no need to quick invade
Sanctions keep him in line

Another fight won’t be polite
Iran can be their foil
Forget about his evil past
Besides we need the oil

{Tariq Aziz}
Don’t you believe what he says
These things just aren’t so
We used to have those weapons
We destroyed them long ago

{Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf a.k.a Baghdad Bob}
Don’t invade our country
You will die at our walls
All your base will belong to us
‘cause we will behead you all!

{UN General Assembly}
We won’t debate further
The resolution passed
Hussein is now just average
He’s been corralled at last

We know you’d like to launch a strike
And for a fight you spoil
But please drop your quest for war
We really need the oil!

v. congress: the dream

We pondered long into the night
To give the president the right
To start the coalition’s war
Then this old man took the floor

{Robert Byrd, D-West Virginia}
I stand behind this podium
To your blood lust do not succumb
The Constitution states it clear
It’s Congress’ job to declare war

Don’t shirk responsibility
By giving Bush authority
To send our soldiers off to die
I urge you now, don’t let this fly

{Awkward silence, then Congress continues}
We’ve talked about it long enough
It’s easier to pass it off
If things go wrong with the assault
Then we’ll pretend it’s not our fault
Sign the bill, it’s time to go
Off to war!

vi. shock and awe

The flames are still in the air
The rubble still in the road
I send Allah a silent prayer
And ask I don’t explode
I hoped it would not come to this
But war was on the wind

I look around my neighborhood
And I see my friends are dead
I don’t think I can hold it back
Hold back this burning in my head
Oh no!

My sorrow is high as I reach for a gun
My anger, spills over…

vii. mission accomplished?

Attention all soldiers of the Iraq Republic
Attention all soldiers of the Iraq Republic
Attention all soldiers of the Iraq Republic
We have assumed control
We have presumed control
Things are out of control
Of course, that's just my opinion...

This is utterly brilliant - shame not many people here seem to know the OS. The Republican Guard verses were hilarious, but the overall design of the parody was so well done. I'm seriously impressed.
Shadow - April 28, 2007 - Report this comment
*claps hands* very, very well done, I admire the type who could parody a whole 20. song for the good of their nation. you can add my name to ur list of admirers ;p 5/5/5
McKludge - April 30, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanks Phil, Shadow, though I must admit this was more for self-indulgence than for "the good of the nation." Next up, Hemispheres!
DBear - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
5/3/5. Serious, so can't give 5 for being funny. I do admire anyone who can parody a side-long track :)
Phil Alexander - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
DBear - how can you say this isn't funny? As someone who's been suffering a bit of a sense of humour failure recently, I can honestly say this is the *only* song of the past week and a bit that has made me laugh... in a clever, witty kind of way
McKludge - well, the whole album is a bit of a self-indulgence, so no real surprise there :-) I don't know if you're into that sort of thing, but had you considered this for a SOTM entry? (see the messageboard if you don't know what I'm talking about - you've got about a week to decide)
Agrimorfee - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
Well done, well done indeed. Released 4 years to the day that GWB lied...um, declared "Mission accomplished." 555
McKludge - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
Again, appreciate the criticisms and sentiments, particularly the SOTM suggestion, Phil. Do enough people know the OS that it'll get votes? And I didn't even think about the release timing, Agrimorfee. Serendipity!
Trooper - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
Funny. Things don't look out of control to us. Agrimorfee, Bush never even said those words. You protesters are the liars and the traitors for trying to undermine your own country's Commander in Chief and his troops in time of war. You should be hanged along with that whore Pelosi and land-swindling sellout Reid for treason and sedition.
McKludge - May 02, 2007 - Report this comment
Ah, nothing divides people like politics. Just look at the voting above. I'd bet that the 1's are from Republicans and the 5's from Democrats. DBear, I'll take your 3 to mean you're Independent :-) Ease up there, Trooper. It's just a flippin' song parody. I haven't protested anything, and I'm certainly not being traitorous. But you're rght, Bush never said "Mission Accomplished." He didn't need to. They were on a big banner over his shoulder, on the conning tower of the aircraft carrier he was speaking from, for all to see. I'll make you a deal, Trooper. If you can prove that my submission of this parody has caused one of our troops to get so much as a hangnail, I'll remove it.
to McKludge - May 04, 2007 - Report this comment
Thank you for your bravery in writing this parody. A Word of Advice, don't bother talking to Trooper. . .the only words that come from that person are insults, childish gimmicks, and large words being used improperly. . .like treason, traitor, and whore (well whore isn't a big word, but (s)he doesn't seem to know what it means). You'd be better inclined to reply only to those who respectfully disagree or take the time to back up their disagrements with facts instead of names.
McKludge - May 04, 2007 - Report this comment
You're probably right, but when I get unreasonably attacked and called names, I like to respond with a calm, reasoned, and accurate argument. That tends to leave the other party speechless, or at least lets everyone else listening know which one is the fool. Bravery? Nah. Soldiers under fire are brave. I'm just an occasionally creative engineer.
Magenta - May 08, 2007 - Report this comment
Around here, "calm, reasoned, and accurate argument" doesn't leave anyone on the left speechless. Just observe that nutcase who was saying we deserved the 9/11 over on Pacholek's parody. Also observe Immoral Liberal, who, when his lies are refuted, just repeats them again while making personal attacks on the debater (and, invariably, calling him a "fascist"). What's more, there are always enough idiots to go on praising the lamest fools on here enough that reason can't break through. The reasoner is left speechless instead, as it becomes inescapably obvious to him that the person he's talking to is insane, and so are his supporters, and that argument is useless since the insane people are the ones most permitted to shape the rhetorical environment. Such is the level of discourse to which mindless hatred (for Bush specifically, but also for Christians and Republicans in general) has reduced this site.
Below Average Dave - May 08, 2007 - Report this comment
Well, Magenta, I have to agree on 'rhetorical environment' I will never understand mindless or blind hate. . .and I don't try to target Christians or Republican specifically, because I've seen blind hate all over the place, but on this site I do see much more blind hatred on the sides you mention, absolutely. Most certainly, the loudest usually shape the opinions of the most people wether they are right, or wrong, even though the rhetorics are often supported only by heresay. Mindless hatred is more vibrant on the internet than on the streets, people use the anotimy of the internet to let inhibitions go and be as ruthless as their hearts really are. A truely good person, no matter what they believe, does not judge a person by who they are or what they are, but by their heart. Some republicans do this, most do not, and that doesn't mean all democrats do either, certainly there are democrats who play with rhetoric too. . .however I find most constructed arguments come from the left--not the right. . .anyone who says "We Deserved 9/11" is a prime example.
Immoral Liberal - May 10, 2007 - Report this comment
Magenta - or Terloon - I challenge you to point to one lie that I have made. It's tough, isn't it. Look, if you should have some back up if you're going to throw things out there. Magenta says: observe Immoral Liberal, who, when his lies are refuted' - Immoral Liberal says PROVE IT. (A challenge that Magenta can't meet.) Thank you.

These Christians created me in their own image - they are dangerous and Bush is mindless. This is the word of God.
Jesus - May 10, 2007 - Report this comment
The war is unjust; republicans are fascists and those who call themselves Christians are in for a rude awakening when it's time to enter the kingdom. Immoral Liberal is right.
McKludge - May 10, 2007 - Report this comment
In the words of David Byrne, "... my god, what have I done?" I ask all of you, please don't turn this parody's comments page into a political and religious flame-a-thon. There are hundreds of web sites out there for such activities. Plus, you're scaring off the SOTM voters :-)
Below Average Dave - May 10, 2007 - Report this comment
McKludge. . .unfortunately, all political point parodies become this way, I haven't read it for SOTM purposes yet, as I too am an SOTM voter. . .I tend to avoid writing these type of parodies for that very reason. . .I rarely hear about my parodies, but rhetoric from both sides bickering back and forth. . .it gets annoying. However. . .I will give this parody the SOTM attention it deserves, and a comment that DOES relate to the parody as I read it, because you deserve that. . .sorry that you aren't getting it.

(SOTM) dktos, and too serious to win SOTM, but definitely worth being entered because of the quality of the writing and the thoroughness with which you achieved your goal, and the historical (or journalistic) accuracy McKludge - and it must have taken you a while - big 555

Michael McVey - May 29, 2007 - Report this comment
The war was necessary, imo, but poorly fought and should have been over years ago. In any case, I don't agree with giving straight 1's just because you don't agree with the author's POV. This was in fact a good parody.
Below Average Dave - May 30, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Amazing write here, unfortunately it's not funny-but then it's not meant to be, someone should start hosting a bi-weekly contest on "Parodies with Purpose" so that songs like this get the credit it deserves. . .if I'd be voting in a contest that wasn't about being funny--you'd have my vote in a heart beat.
Mikey Squirrel - May 30, 2007 - Report this comment
SOTM- DKTOS either, but I do have to agree that this was a little too serious for my liking. Still, kudos for tackling a long song.

(SOTM) DKTOS (or rather, DWTHOS...Don't Want To Hear Original Song! =P) but wow. What an epic. As others have said, not the funniest, but this was really insightful and detailed—a lot of research, as well as your typical parody refinings, must have went into this!
wannabemustangjockey - May 31, 2007 - Report this comment
SOTM - I'm a Republican myself, but I'm not the type who votes 1s just because I don't agree with the politics. Obviously there's a lot of work in this. On another note, I find it funny that a group called "Rush" would record a song 20 minutes long.
Kristof Robertson - May 31, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I'll echo the thoughts of those who came before me....brilliantly sharp writing, an epic parody of an epic OS, but probably too serious to medal in SOTM. However, you get nothing but admiration from me for tackling this. 555

(SOTM) Like Phil, I'm very impressed. The whole Republican Guard piece was hilarious, and though this shifts from humor at the end, it's still a top write up. One of the better political parodies I've seen here. 555
