Song Parodies -> "I Think You Are Dumb"

Original Song Title:

"How Deep Is Your Love?"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

The Bee Gees

Parody Song Title:

"I Think You Are Dumb"

Parody Written by:

Blaydeman

The Lyrics

Inspired by the movie "Dinner For Schmucks". It may be a little repetitive, but honestly, I don't care.
Verse 1: Don’t wear sunscreen in the blazing sun
I see you run nude in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander in a cave
I have to go and look for you again

Hook: And you like to tease a big hive of bees
Keep me wondering how that people don’t see
Now I think it starts to show

Chorus: I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I really need to learn
Cause we’re living in a world of fools
They’re all around
And they all just bother me
They belong in therapy

Verse 2: I believe in school
So why are all these kids dropping out
You run into a glass door incidentally
When you walk you trip and fall

Hook: And you may not know
How to do math
When you know you can’t walk
A smart man’s path
And you have a low IQ

Chorus: I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I really need to learn
Cause we’re living in a world of fools
They’re all around
And they all just bother me
They belong in therapy

La la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

Hook: And you bombed all the standardized testing
And you scored just as high as a chimpanzee
Simple things you do not know

Chorus: I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I really need to learn
Cause we’re living in a world of fools
They’re all around
And they all just bother me
They belong in therapy

Chorus: I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I really need to learn
Cause we’re living in a world of fools
They’re all around
And they all just bother me
They belong in therapy

Chorus: I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I think you are dumb
I really need to learn
Cause we’re living in a world of fools
They’re all around
And they all just bother me
They belong in therapy

Blayde - Nothing dumb about this (thanks for the old Bee Gee song). fine job! ;D

(Artistry) That was a HILARIOUS movie. And your parody is as well. IQ (of laughs) is 555

(Artistry) Pretty funny, not at all dumb. Repeating the chorus isnt as bad as using the "living in a world of fools" line verbatim. :)

Not at all bad. It needs a bit more work with the repetition (that's something you should really work on, parodies seem fresher when you don't reuse lines). Plus I agree with Aggy and using the line: "Living in a world of fools" right from the original song seemed a tad lazy.

Well actually that line is where I actually got the idea. I was listening to the song, waiting for inspiration to strike, and it did when that line played. It felt wrong to leave it out, since it was my muse in a way.

This one's repetition is not its main problem, there is a confusing character flaw when the singer says this. . "I think you are dumb I really need to learn" . Your switching of point of view indicates either A) He's singing about himself in third person, B) He's trying to understand those around him who he views as 'dumb', or C) an editing error--I'm leaning towards B, and that its somehow related to the movie which I haven't seen thus if that's it--then I didn't get it. . .the reuse of an original line doesn't bother me if its work in differently which you did, but the change in point of view is an English mistake that makes the parody read different altogether.

(Artistry) Interesting take Dave, I didn't read it that way. To me there was an unspoken part of the line "I really need to learn" which was "I really need to learn (if you are truly dumb)". Which keeps the point of view consistent. But that was just my take on it, Blaydeman will need to chime in to give the definitive answer. And I think it's great if a line or two from the original song fits in the parody without modification.

(Artistry) Using lines from the OS in a new context always works with me (unless, like, half of the lines are re-used, then it's lazy). Apart from the repeated chorus, this was pretty good. Worth a 555.

Artistry...

Falling down a lot and running into glass doors do NOT automatically qualify a person as being dumb. At least that's what I keep telling all those people who call me dumb. ; )
