The Lyrics

Note for cops: I realise there are already 2 dozen parodies to this Beatles OS, and that this is the first to The Carpenters' cover of that OS, but I deliberately chose the "performance by The Carpenters" (as it says above)...........not because it has one less verse and chorus, but because it's slower and sadder
I think I'm gonna be sad
I heard with dismay (yeah)
that secret agent Don Ad-
-ams just passed away
He was a hero of mi-ine
He used to kiss Ninety Ni-i-ine
He always stepped out-a-line
now he's not there

They say he's meeting the chief
to toss round ideas (yeah)
Would you believe just a brief
word in his ear?
Sure, he was accident pro-one
but he had his trusty shoe pho-o-one
except in "Of Silence, The Cone"
(humour me there)

Hope he's having fun in the sky-y
He wouldn't come across
any KAOS bods
up there
Before he made his final goodby-ye
hope he reassigned
lovely Ninety-Nine's
software

I think that Agent Thirteen
is gonna be sad (yeah)
and Hymie - and Larrabee
and Siegfried......(a tad)
but
Don's gonna land on his fee-eet
Whose?
"Sorry about that, chie-ee-eef"
The chief's gonna get no relief
with Don up there

CONTROL's lost its sassiest ma-an

So have his millions of fa-ans

He's helping God with his pla-ans

AND..loving it

Don Adams died? :-(....Get Smart was one of my favourite shows as a kid, and this was a fitting (and funny) tribute to a great comic actor. 555

I think it's been about a month since he died...but this is still timely. I totally approve of the more melancholy version of the song, Stu...nicely done...

Would you believe he died just yesterday? How about 2 days ago? In fact, it was last week. Would you believe it's been a month or so since he died? 555

thanks Kristof

Arwen and Rick - thanks to you both, and you're right, he died weeks ago. My second line was originally "I heard yesterday (yeah)" then I got stuck after verse one and didn't finish it. I noticed it again yesterday and decided to finish it

thanks AFW, and thanks Red Ant, and thanks to OS Cop for not knee-jerk reacting, to the sight of "Ticket To Ride" and "The Carpenters" on the same line of the New Entries page

I had to look twice too at this copy by the Carpenters. I'm glad I actually knew it. A very good tribute, Stu 5's

I'm somewhat surprised that this many people remember a one-of-a kind performer whose best work was done in the 60s. But thanks for this moving tribute, Stuart.

thanks JAB
I think it's the best thing the Carpenters did, adagio - I love the long moody intro that gives no inkling of the song it's leading into

you're right JJ - he only did the one known role, but he was born to do it, and I can't imagine anyone else in the role, and all the many memorable lines would not be memorable if not for his nasal, eccentric, and non-subtle delivery - he was not a good actor, and that's part of his uniqueness and charm

thanks alvin!

Loved the parody, and loved the intro "Note to cops" - had me laughing before I got to parody! :)
