2002: Doug Forrester wins the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator from New Jersey on a platform of "I'm not Bob Torricelli." When Torricelli drops out of the race, Forrester has nothing to say, and loses to former Senator Frank Lautenberg. 2004: Forrester announces he's running for Governor next year, on a platform of "I'm not Jim McGreevey." Then McGreevey resigns. 2005: With Senator Jon Corzine his opponent, Forrester runs on a platform of "I'm not a corrupt Democrat." Corzine runs a commercial with a picture of Forrester and George W. Bush smiling together, and Corzine wins by 200,000 votes (54 to 43 percent). 2006: Corzine's Senate seat is open. Hmmmm...
