Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I bet none of you saw this one coming! R. Sargent Shriver, who died recently at the age of 95, was one of my absolute favorite political figures of all time. Although I am not a blind Kennedy idolater (I liked John and admired Bobby's intellect) and seldom agreed with any of the family on issues, I thought the world of Eunice's husband. Here was a man of ability, sense, class, and compassion...but sadly devoid of the family charisma. I'll miss him! ;D

Sargent Shriver, you were a Kennedy in-law.
On your own you stood tall - you made a name.
You served the country.
You gave your talents so freely.
Your passing is really such
A terrible shame.

How you stood with John and Bobby, sir!
You headed the first Peace Corps,
And when e'er you spoke it always made good sense.
But your time has come to leave us.
We will hear your fine voice no more.
I can scarcely think of you in the past tense.

Sargent Shriver, how D.C. has changed to no place
For people of your grace - your skill and your heart.
Another - New Frontier - calls you like in the sixties.
We wish you were with us to help make a new start.

'Though I've always stood with the old right wing
When you spoke that didn't mean a thing.
You ran as George M.'s veep - now that was bold.
And your daughter has the same good head
'Though Maria now has gone and wed
Ah-nold!

Sargent Shriver, I will remember you warmly.
May class and may charm be - your legacy.
There's no denying - that Old Man Ribber will miss you.
And if some fool will try to diss you -
(Let them try to diss you!)
If some damned fool will try to diss you -
He'll answer to me!

So sue me! Please...there must be another Shriver, Goldwater, George H.W. Bush or even Stevenson (an Adlai?) out there somewhere! ;D
