The Lyrics

I mentioned to our precocious newcomer, Logan The Amazing, that my first stab at a parody was as a Senior in High School, and here it is ..... The Knights in the song are the Knights of St Mary's, our school's biggest rival, whose colors were green and gold (Ours were red and white) They had beaten us five times in a row when we played them as Seniors. We completely sucked for the first three quarters but pulled it together in the fourth for the narrow win. We went on an epic 80 yard,16-play drive where we did nothing but hand the ball off to John Likovich, who would later play linebacker at Notre Dame ......... I filled out some of the first three stanzas, but my 17-year old self nailed "Knight Lament"
Knights in white jerseys; never reaching the end (zone, that is)
Passes are hoisted; never hitting their hands
Broncos have always whiffed; with these Knights before
If we keep screwing up; we wont play anymore*

Cause they'll beat us
Yes, they'll beat us
Oh how they'll beat us

Gazing at people, packed in the stands
Just why we're sucking, they cant understand
Some try to tell Coach; John they cannot defend
Just feed the Big Beast; we'll win out in the end

And we'll beat them
Yes, we'll beat them
Oh, how we'll beat them

Knights in white jerseys; never slowing him down
Football he's toting; for another first down
Broncos have often missed; with these Knights before
Coach almost blew it; I wont say anymore*

Cause we beat them
Yes we beat them
Lord, how we beat them

(Musical interlude during which I transform into a flaming, trash talking A-hole ....)

Breathe deep your impending doom
Watch Knights fade in West High gloom
St Mary coaches look back in lament
Three quarters of dominance uselessly spent
Embattled defenders bounce off big John
Lonely Knight cries out for help and has none
True mother stands up and cheers for her son
Alumni ex-Broncos wish they were young
Cold hearted O-line that rules the Knight
Removes the tacklers from his sight
Red is green and yellow white
But we decide who wins this fight ....

And who stays home next Friday

*We were contending for a playoff spot ..... *Basically, Coach pulled a Pete Carroll, 40 years before Pete Carroll did by calling for a pass near the goal line which went right into the hands of a Knight defender .. who dropped it

Rob, in this case, Knights are the bad guys. I was a Bronco. Generally we got ridden into the dirt by the Knights ..... but we bucked them off that year!!
