The Lyrics
He served longer as Prime Minister of a nation in the British Empire and Commonwealth than anyone else: Three separate terms, 1921-26, 1926-30 (don't ask about the three-month gap in '26), and 1935-48, a shade over 21 out of 28 years. And his private life was certainly worthy of parody. Yet it was hard to come up with a song for Mackenize King (the first two names were usually dropped). Then I saw a Coke machine outside a store, and bingo.
He tried to build a better land
with Wilfrid Laurier.
For Labour he was Minister
a kind of protege.

In private, I could tell a joke
about his company.
He fought with Arthur Meighen and
Governor-General Byng.

Mike--Never be ashamed that this song is about Canada. My late father grew up Jewish in Canada from 1925-1955 before immigrating to the U.S. and, therefore, deprived me of half my heritage, stating that Canada was a terrible place. It wasn't until I married my husband, who like my father, is a Toronto native and told me about Mackenzie King. All immigrant groups faced some sort of discrimination when they first came to North America, but things have changed tremendously. I believe people outside of Canada should be exposed to Canadian history to clear up any misconceptions they may have. 5's allaway, eh?!
