Barney the purple dinosaur is SOOOO irritating. He has this absolutely sickening and grossly annoying voice and he sings the schmaltziest songs around for the children. Instead of the goopy "I Love You, You Love Me" we need "I Am Everyday People" by Sly Stone, (or Joan Jett, for that matter).which we had in our elementary school class. We sang "Yellow Submarine"! Great campy fun! We sang 'Leaving On a Jet Plane', 'Blowing In the Wind', 'Puff the Magic Dragon', 'Take a Stick of Bamboo', 'Lion Sleeps Tonight' and other delights. We also had "I Love Onions" (onions onions na na na) and another great Sesame Street treat "Ma na-na-na". Yeah, we had our share of stinkers too - I HATE the one about 'pack your bags going to I-o-way', I never liked 'Feelin' Groovy', I don't want to ever hear 'You Light Up My Life' or 'God Bless the U.S.A.' EVER AGAIN! Songs about God? How about 'My Sweet Lord' or 'Yah Mo B There'? Songs about peace and harmony? How about 'All You Need Is Love' (we did that one), or 'Sowing the Seeds of Love'? Or even 'You and I' by Alice Cooper? REAL SONGS, folks. Not this corporate garbage that floods the TV and airwaves like an Orwellian mind chant that reeks so bad that even the kids want to break from it and SMASH THE TV SET! YAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
