The Lyrics

Little Danny is six years-old and is anticipating the coming of the New Year almost as badly as he anticipated the arrival of Santa Claus last week.
Mom says I'm much
Much too young
A precocious kid
Why can't I join the grown-ups' party?

Oh Mom, please let me, in the party!

Mom says I'm much
Much too young
School's still on vacation!
She says it still won't be fun for me

Let me stay, let me stay
Let me stay up New Year's Eve!

Won't be ru-ude
I won't whi-ine!
I really want to join in
On the Auld Lang Syne

I'm not too much
Much too young
Even if I am a kid
Don't deny New Year's Eve for me

Yes Daddy? He'll let me! The party on New Year's Eve!

I'm not immatu-ure
This food is grosser
Than the stuff they serve at the school lunch counters
Don't want no goat cheese
Or the sliced jicamas
And I'd really like to play some Nintendo too!
(It's 10:02!)

I must stay up
Though I yawn
Persistent little kid
Did that drunk lady make a pass at me?

My eyes start to roll, awake on New Year's Eve!

I'm not too much
Much too young
Now I sneaked shots of liquor
Feeling just a bit dizzy!

One hour--'til midnight--on New Year's Eve!

All the adults, acting peculiar
Smelly breath and yelling out, "Boo-Yar!"
And the TV programs are so unfamiliar
I blank out, and then I see the morning bloom
I'm in the living room
Missed the celebration, crap!
Slept on Mommy's lap!

Seems somehow quite a believable child's eye view of a New Year's do
Matthias - November 22, 2007 - Report this comment
New Years Eve isn't anything special to a College student who spends on average till 3 in the morning working on essays due the next day in class, but to a 6 year old it was some serious business. Very cute Aggy.

What Phil said. Very well written and nostalgic (for me anyway). 555

Believably reflects a kid's curiosity about the New Years Eve, "Too-Doo"

My old comment stands, this was very nostalgic, and I loved you telling this from the point of view of a six year old. A pretty classic Agrimorfee work.

(Dec 2.0) Ah yes, New year's Eve was awesome when I was young - now I couldn't care less. Excellent work Agri.

(dec2.5) see above - and I agree with Matthias's comment too, Ag

Decathlon...funny stuff, Agri. With parents who didn't drink, New Year's Eve was always just about staying up late for me. I think my childhood adventures, therefore, were a little more tame than this...=)

DEC- Very cute, especially when the six-year old kid started getting drunk. Kinda recaptures the innocence of my youth. Great job, Agri.

(DEC 2.5) My absolute favourite Specials song, and you did it justice, Ag...not an easy tune to parody, but you got the feel just right. 555

(DEC2) No not an easy OS to hit. . .cute more than funny, I had no trouble following your pacing, but um Agri. . .you really changed up the rhyme scheme A LOT, I had to re-read a few times to 'get it'
Jeff Reuben - December 13, 2007 - Report this comment
Once again, I agree with BAD. Well done!

(New Year's) Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the OS. And I have to agree with Dave on this one, you really did change up the rhyme scheme a lot. I had to read through it several times before I really got it. Once I had it though, it was really funny. Taking the perspective of a 6 year old was an interesting and genius idea. Wish I would've thought of it.

(HOLIDAY) Nice work. Never heard the original song before, but you did a nice job with the rhyming...the pacing was a little off in some places, but good job!

See Above. . .still a good idea:)

I really like the perspective of this one, as others have said. I enjoyed reading this again
