Parody Song Title:

"Push Religion"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Let me warm up my throat to sing this. me-me-me-meeeee.......
When you hear your God a-callin'
And your quota you must haul in
You must go and push religion where you can
Cause you've studied someone else's teachin'
That qualifies you to go preachin'
I think you should push religion where you can

Never mind if they don't care
Or if they cuss at you and glare
You must go and push religion where you can
Tell 'em you're doing them a favor
You're the one who knows the Savior
I think you should push religion where you can

Everybody push religion, I want you to push religion
Come on and push religion where you can
God needs you to push religion, cause it's your religion
Go out and push religion through the land

You should praise him every song
For your God is never wrong
You must go and push religion where you can
Make your neighbor take a look
At the biggest selling book
I think you should push religion where you can

Doors on which to knock
You're the shepherd, they're the flock
You must go and push religion where you can
Like the folks on 9-11
Who just knew they're goin' to heaven
Knew how to push religion to a man

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey everybody drone on!

Come on and push, push religion when you can
He needs you to push religion, everybody drum on
Hey, hey, hey push religion where you can

I just got finished doing a parody of this song about women's underwear, kinda on the opposite end of the spectrum if you think about it huh? Looks like Jimmy Swaggert came by and punished you with ones. Here's some 5's to offset him.

Wait... I am a Christian, and at first glance, I thought I approved of this song, until I noticed you congratulated the terrorists on 9/11. If that is not what you meant to do, then what DID you mean?
MrMacphisto - May 16, 2004 - Report this comment
Hey, "Your Worst Nightmare".... I think Rick was making fun of the Islamic terrorists for thinking that killing innocent people would get them into heaven. You know... like how he was making fun of Christian evangelists in the same way.

Very true and well said. My 'Worst Nightmare' is a Jehova's Witness.
Phil Alexander - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
ISTM that Rick's making an pertinent point about what religion can cause its followers to do in its name - and it ain't always healthy: the attackers on 9/11 believed that by doing what they did they'd get to heaven... that's not congratulation, YWN

gimme dat ol' time religion parody...5s
Your Worst Nightmare - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
I thought this was a misguided religous parody. Instead, it is a parody making fun of all religions. That's lamer than I thought. And MacPhisto, I am not a Jehovah's witness, whatever that is. I am a presbyterian.
Rick D - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
So far, I was enjoying the comments, but I take exception to being told I'm making fun of all religions. I never make fun of anyone's personal belief. I just take exception when that belief carries over into other people's lives and beliefs, whether it be "witnessing" in public, posting religious songs on a comedy website, or killing people in the name of your "God". It's all wrong, just a matter of degree. I respect anyone who happens to be presbyterian, or anything else. MrMacphisto understood. Sorry you didn't.

Loved it, especially the 911 part. And I'm not surprised that Your Nurse Mightwear is a Jesus fre--uh, religious person.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
Okay, Rick, I agree with you about killing people in the name of God, however, people have the right to post religous parodies on this website.

And as to Claude, stop pretending to be Pat Buchanan.
Rick D - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
I didn't say "parodies", I said "songs". I agree this site is for anyone to post written parodies of any kind here.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 18, 2004 - Report this comment
Also to Claude Prez, I would rather be referred to as a Jesus Freak than a "religous person".

A wonderful piece of satire. Coincidentally, (just a dog's walk before reading your work), I came across a John Locke quote. With apologies for "preaching" in your space, it follows: "For men..., however apparently contradictory to common sense, and the very principles of all their knowledge; have let loose their fancies and natural superstition; and have been by them led into so strange opinions, and extravagant practices in religion, that a considerate man cannot but stand amazed at their follies, and judge them so far from being acceptable to the great and wise God, that he cannot avoid thinking them ridiculous, and offensive to a sober man. So that in effect religion, which should most distinguish us from beasts, and ought most peculiarly to elevate us, as rational creatures, above brutes, is that wherein men often appear most irrational and more senseless than beasts themselves. " - John Locke, "An Essay Concerning Human Understanding"
Rick D - May 18, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Robert. That's a wonderful quote.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Robert, are you saying that it is irrational to believe in God? It would be irrational to believe otherwise. Or if you are talking about the strange practices that some pentecostal churches do, I agree with you.
Robert J. Pagliaro - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
YWM - I didn't say it, John Locke did. And while he's saying a lot here, I think that some of what Locke is saying is that religion is irrational (causes irrational thinking in man) and many religious practices would not be acceptable to the creator - that most religions have gotten it all wrong. Finally, I disagree with you - I don't believe that you can say that it is irrational to not believe in god (nor can one honestly say that it is irrational to believe in god). Questioning can only result in more knowledge.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Yes, MANY practices that religions do are unacceptable, so at least we can see eye to eye on that. But it is very irrational to not believe in God. How else did we get here? The simplest "simple" cell is more complex than a gold watch, so it is obvious that there was careful design put into the Earth.
Robert J. Pagliaro - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I'm not yet convinced that anyone knows how we got here. Hey, as far as I'm concerned, whatever get you through your life if fine with me - as long as religious laws, morals, and values don't work their way into legislation. And for the sake of argument, if you believe that it is very irrational to not believe in god, then I'll believe it's very irrational to believe in god (for balance of power). Until either of us can offer proof, it seems to me that neither view is irrational.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
LOL! You're looney tunes. I'm not going to believe anything for "balance of power", but because it makes sense. And morals and values can't be in legislation? I understand certain morals and values, such as lying, should not be outlawed, but things such as, killing and stealing should.
Robert J. Pagliaro - May 19, 2004 - Report this comment
You didn't read what I wrote: I said that I don't believe that a belief or non belief in god is irrational, but if you are going to say that non-believing is irrational then I'll say believing is irrational to balance the power. Finally, I said that I don't think "religious laws, morals, and values [should] work their way into legislation." In other words, the bible should not dictate nor influence US law. Of course there has to be law.

Some notorious typos found in the Bible
By The Associated Press, May 19, 2004

Some notorious typos found in the Bible throughout history:

--Blessed are the place-makers (instead of "peacemakers"), Matthew 5:9.

--Thou shalt commit adultery, Exodus 20:14.

--Know ye not that the unrighteous shall (omitted "not") inherit the kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 6:9.

--Printers (instead of "Princes") have persecuted me without a cause, Psalm 119:161.

--Go and sin on (instead of "no") more, John 8:11.

--The fool hath said in his heart there is a (instead of "no") God, Psalm 14:1.

--Let the children first be killed (instead of "filled"), Mark 7:27.

--These are murderers (instead of "murmurers"), complainers, Jude 16.

--The murderer shall surely be put together (instead of "to death"), Numbers 25:18.

--He hath ears to ear (instead of "hear"), let him hear, Matthew 11:15.

-- I will ... that women adorn themselves in modern (instead of "modest") apparel, 1 Timothy 2:9.

Source: Unknown, but list is commonly circulated among Bible collectors.

Rob, using pseudo-logic isn't helping. I was trying to say what was wrong with evolution, and you were all like, "Well, if you believe this, I'm going to pretend to believe this to balance the power..." Say two people believed two different things. One believed that flatulence controlled wind power, and the other thought otherwise. So, since there is really no way to PROVE whether or not flatulence controls wind power, neither view is irrational? As...gross as that example is, if two people disagree on something that cannot be proved, one can still defy one of the beliefs with the factor of likeliness. I read that the chance of evolution happening was something like one out of two and a half googols.

As for Zorro, let me just say I am glad I do not have an Associated Press Bible. "Printers have persecuted me without a cause" The printers of Associated Press. lol

YWN - ok. Listen, I wasn't trying to start any argument with you, so I apologize if my message was poorly communicated. Personally, I don't disbelieve that there is a god, but no organized religion has convinced me that there is a god. And to me, if there is a god, it can't be as easy to understand as religion makes it. I felt the Locke quote was appropos of my personal views on organized religion and my curiosity of what "God" really is. Believe me, I defend and respect your right to believe what you want to believe.

I wasn't ever offended by what you said. But you seem all too neutral on the standpoint. Are you agnostic?
