The Lyrics

Didn't see anything by Robert the last couple of days, though he is back again this morning. Apparently another medical emergency. Rob has a special place here at AIR. The other night this 1970's Irish Republican Army song about the British internment camps popped into my head. The opening line, which I adopted, reads "Armored cars and tanks and guns, came to take away our sons. Now every man must stand behind the men behind the wire". Armored cars and tanks and guns? Whose parodies does that remind you of? I hope you like it. I hope Rob gets to see this.
Armored cars and tanks and guns
H-Bombs hotter than the sun
And every day we learned it from
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

Aeroplanes that never flew
Boy imprisoned in a zoo
The many facts this fellow knew
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

From the town of Sacramento, Blitzkrieg like we'd never seen
Robert came with his statistics, every Nazi war machine
Hear the roar of Jumo engines, "Schwalbe" M. E. two six two
How much thrust they generated, armament, how high they flew

Germans first in outer space?
Cartridges without a case
He had a special rhyme and pace
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

Swiss hid Nazi gold in bank
How the "Wilhelm Gustloff" sank
For this knowledge we now thank
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

Secret craft experimental, dogs and pigeons trained to fight
Panzerfaust and Kettenräder, ornithopter first took flight
Down the roads of France and Russia, Hitler's men are here again
Great wolves stalking Allied shipping, from a coastal U-Boat pen

Every day ole Screamin' Jay
Twisted in his special way
John Barry's record he would slay
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

Then one day, we don't know why
He discovered "Honey Pie"
Was short enough to multiply
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.

Parodies of Lady Ga Ga, super heroes, animé
Sometimes he could be quite pious, sometimes he could be risqué
One day he would post a dozen, then the next a dozen more
He could shoot out songs much faster than an M. G. Thirty-four

Often mentioned he was ill
But he kept on writing still
Had a quota, meant to fill
Rob Arndt of A.I. R.

History lessons, strange but true
He would put a spell on you
A one-man Wikipedia
Rob Arndt of A.I.R.
There are several good versions of "The Men Behind the Wire" on youtube. Classic Irish melody.

TY Patrick... although knowledge can be both a blessing and a curse. Some people admire me for it and others despise me for it. But I love to learn and to teach whenever possible. I use the IPASOY parodies to inform. But my health is going. My goal is 500 just like JAB. I am at 440...

Hang on, I have a feeling you're going to reach your goal. I had this Wolfe Tones record since the late 1970's. Hadn't listened to it in years. Then for some unknown reason, it the opening line popped into my head, and I thought of you. Hope I got most of the details right. I always enjoyed the information I got from you. And I wanted you to know that.

Thanks again Patrick and GL on your own series of the EFG. I like your telling of the tale repeatedly but would like to know if you could do a few other maritime disasters! The Germans sunk so much shipping that I have a long list of ships to write about. But sea weapons and tragedies are always third after air and land...

A good tribute Patrick - and looks like you've got it all covered! Fave line: "He could shoot out songs much faster than an M. G. Thirty-four". Five Stukas over Disneyland for you...

TY JAB and Meriadoc that is the best title I have heard of yet- "Stukas over Disneyland"!!! I need to contact the "Iron Sky" people over that idea :)

@Rob - lol! It's actually the title of a song that used to get played on KROQ all the time in the early 80s:

This is sooo Gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Even neo-Nazi homosexuals, disguised by macho weapons, are free to express the love that dare not speak its name.
