The Lyrics

All my life I've been baffled as I have observed
What some folks will do to have fun
Jump out of planes, stick needles in veins
Listen to music as loud as a gun

Then there's fear. No way you can call these dudes yellow
They like fear. They hold the line when my legs would turn into Jello
(Turn into Jello)
Trapeze without nets, keep brown bears for pets, launch sky rockets out of their rears
They've addled their brains, how else to explain, the fact that some people like fear

When those children died on that carnival ride
Why, it only enhanced the appeal
They strap themselves in for one last, lethal spin
As they swirl, hear them joyfully squeal

We like fear. It proves we are tough, macho fellows
Without fear? The girls would ignore us and fall for the geek who plays cello
(Geek who plays Cello)
So, go bungee jump in a toxic waste dump, then lasso a rodeo steer
Just savor the pain, risk being maimed, and admit you're addicted to fear
(You're hooked on fear)

A stroll after dark, like a swim with a shark
These are chances I'd rather not take
Mount Everest climb? I'll politely decline
Won't skate on that half-frozen lake

I like fear. Someday it just might save my hiney
Fear is good. If it keeps me from danger I don't care if you think I'm whiney
(We think you're whiney)
Go bullfight in Spain, or chase hurricanes, compete for Jackass of the year
To fly kites in the rain, race an oncoming train, I would need something stronger than beer
(Stronger than Beer)
youtube has a sizable number of videos of idiots shooting bottle rockets out of their butts. Jackass: a TV show featuring morons performing pointless, dangerous stunts.

Patrick - All I fear is trying to keep up with great parodies like this one. And believe me, THAT can be a dangerous act in itself. ;D

Very true premise..and, undoubtedly explains popularity of show you mention, as well as, "Fear Factor", a few years back

Thanks. I was afraid nobody would notice my song.

Of course I noticed, but also, one *minor* medical correction: It isn't the fear itself that's addictive; it's the resulting adrenaline rush. Sort of the body's own "speed" (amphetamines, meth, etc.) that is released in the fight-or-flight response.
It can certainly be a high, says the turtle who once jumped off a 3500' cliff with a bit of aluminum and cloth strapped to his shell (hang glider), and always sought out double-diamond (hardest) ski runs. But there's a difference between adrenaline and stupidity -- namely, whether you're in control -- and you included a lot of Jackass stupidity, too. Well done. 555.

However, having swum with many, many sharks, should really dispel the "Jaws" myth. Great whites, yeah, but the Caribbean ones range from indifferent to docile to friendly. Once saw six nurse sharks cuddled up together, napping in a little depression in the reef. Swam right by them; they paid no heed. Had one swim up to within two feet of my snorkel-buddy and me. look at us, shrug his shoulders (so to speak) and swim off.

The most dangerous thing in the ocean is Man.

Or what Man dumps in the ocean.
TT - September 03, 2010 - Report this comment
Yeah, that too -- which ruins the visibility for scuba divers and turtles, kills reefs (breeding grounds and shelter for juvenile fish) etc.

See conment @ "California". Oh, heck, I'll reprint it here.

Your song is done. I won't be here on the holiday (may check for comments), but it might post on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Thanks for the idea - it was easy.

Aw, don't get all mushy on me -- piece of cake!
