The Lyrics

When confronted with an attractive member of the gender one is attracted to, there are many kinds of responses one can have. This would be the "disbelieving self-deprecating" manoeuvre.
Girl, you say you want me no-ow
And in a manner that's most ambiguous?
Girl, don't think you'd want me no-ow
Cause I'm not really a pleasant sight
Girl, you sure you want me no-ow?
Cause if you are, then your tastes are in question, yeah
But if you really want me no-ow
Then I won't judge, least out loud, that's fine

You say you want me (oh)
Why would you want me (oh-oh)?
Don't think you'd want me

See, my hair's rather greasy-y
I don't wash it a lot, cannot lie
Geek, that's what I am, you see-ee
Not good at conversations outside
Girl, you said you want me no-ow
And now I'm ramblin' cause it's so confusin', yeah
Cause yeah, don't think you'd want me no-ow
Not a catch, aware of that, right?

My skin is spotty
My belly's chubby
But you still want me?
Oh no, no, ah

Girl, what did you say right now?
I was too busy bein' really flustere-ed (ow)
Girl, you only want me now
In the sense of doin' my job right?
Girl, I feel a fool right no-ow
So what exactly was it you were after then?
Okay, here's your pre-order no-ow
And please let me apologise

Hope'd you would want me
But no-one wants me (oh)
My number, really?
Oh, oh, oh

This probably wouldn't be how I'd react. True, I'd be surprised, but I'd definitely double-check what she meant in order to avoid any assumption-based embarrassment.

The obvious comment is of course; here's my number - 555. BTW - I've always wondered why the first track on Van Halen's debute album was a cover song.
