"The Night The Lights Went Out In New York"
The Lyrics
He was on his way home from Wall Street
He'd cut out early, and he thought he'd meet
Some friends and have him a drink, but he wasn't quite sure
Andy Wolloe said "Yo"
And he said "Hey, wassup there, Wo?"
"Seth, sit down, you're on my foot, it really hurts!"
And as they sat, it became a fright
Someone done turned out the lights
"That better not be your hand on my knee, there, Seth "
Well, he got mad 'n' said, "Why not?", and Andy said "You're overwrought"
"but to tell ya the truth, I been wonderin' myself"
That's the night that the lights went out in New York
That's the night that they burned the candles instead
Well, don't trust your ride to no urban transit system
'cause tonight you've got a sidewalk for a bed
Well, Andy got scared and left the bar
Walkin' on home 'cause he didn't have a car
And even if he did have one, the streets were all jammed
Andy thought, "Hey, how can this be?"
"Feels like someone's followin' me!"
And as he walked in the dark, his friend took his hand
And they went off towards Andy's place
A'sneakin' through the alleys, pickin' up the pace
And both could see that between them, there was a spark
They kept on walkin' down the street
Hoping they were being quite discreet
But they had to admit to themselves, they were lost in the dark
Well, the NYPD was a'makin' their rounds
So he yelled, "Hey, pig!", just to flag 'em down
And a big-bellied sergeant got his gun and said "why'dya do it?"
Andy told him, "We can't find our way in the dark"
The sergeant said, "You're in Central Park!"
So Andy said, "We're not going to find my place, so just screw it!"
That's the night that the lights went out in New York
That's the night that they burned the candles instead
Well, don't trust your ride to no urban transit system
'cause tonight you've got a sidewalk for a bed
Well, Andy and my brother walked down Broadway
And on the sidewalk they did stay
And they shared many things that night, there's no doubt
But there's on thing they didn't count on
The Times photographer and his Nikon
And so, it seems that my brother will be coming out
That's the night that the lights went out in New York, oh-oh-aah
That's the night that they burned the candles instead, ah-huh-unh
Well, don't trust your ride to no urban transit system
FADE
'cause tonight you've got a sidewalk for a bed
