The Lyrics

I-Man – There’s your cross and thorned crown
Rev’rend Sharpton? How’s hypocrisy sound?
Rev’rend Jackson? Could it be “Hymie Town”?
Where hos need to be unnappy?

Alvin, there’s something you should know
I said, Sharpton, (‘tis) why you're on radio
Free speech ain’t fair(?), but it “suits” you just fine
When it gets you so much Prime Time

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?

You preach everything for black folk to enjoy
I-Man snorts white lines for white boys

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?

You can cut your best deal, this is your ticket meal
Let us say whatever we feel . . .

Rev’rend? Are you listening to me?
I said, Sharpton?, You’re not judge nor jury
I said, Alvin, you can make real those dreams.
But you’re no Martin Luther King!

I-Man, Does his mane match his mouth?
Rev’rend Sharp-ton, wig or “doo-it-yourself”?
All this bad hair, coifed by I-M-U-S
I’m sure can be cured by Nexxus

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?

You preach everything for black folk to enjoy
I-Man snorts white lines for white boys ...

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?.

You can cut your best deal, this is your ticket meal
Let us say whatever we feel . . .

Sharp-ton, you once walked in his shoes
‘Nuf said?, Weren’t six white men falsely accused?
They felt no one cared if they survived
I felt, was it rape or just jive?

“Round then, Jesse said on TV
He feared black men when he walked DC streets
A mistake not un-like I-M-U-S(?)

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?.

Al says everything for black folk to enjoy
“Fan” sports their shows for white boys ...

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?

Rev’rend, Sharp-ton, you just need to calm down
Rev’rend, Sharp-ton, why not take the high ground?

Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?
Why such a fuss over I-M-U-S?

Rev’rend, in this democracy
I ask, Alvin?, Was this dealt with justly?

I-M-U-S
Just blame it on Don I-M-U-S
I-Man?, Does his mane match his mouth?
Rev’rend Sharp-ton?, Wig or “doo-it- yourself”?
I-Man? Does his mane match his mouth?
And Al Sharp-ton? Wig or “doo-it-yourself”?

I-M-U-S
Let’s just go after I-M-U-S
I-M-U-S
Sharp-ton, Sharp-ton, you once walked in his shoes
I-M-U-S
Sharp-ton, Sharp-ton, Dukes cleared, but who’s still the top of the news?
I-M-U-S

If Don Imus had spent the last 40 years doing what Al Sharpton's done the last 20 years, he'd still have a job. Al Sharpton wouldn't have lived long enough to do what Imus has done for 40 years, because someone who thinks like you do and is better armed would have stopped him.

This was hilariously funny. As another free speech proponent, Bill Maher, joked the other night when introducing Mr. Sharpton: "I appreciate your making time for us tonight . . . I know this is your busy season." Mikey, it was a joke that backfired, get over it. There was no need for a crucifixion. 5s.

So sad that people are coming to Imus's defense. He's an antisemite and a racist. Good riddance.

I think Imus was way out of line here and I have enjoyed much of his humor over the years. It's OK by me to poke fun at politicians and celebrities Those folks have chosen the limelight and therefor are fair game, but to pick on a group of college athletes and other unknowns is not appropriate.

Thanks all for the feedback. Michael, I am as liberal in my views as you are. To me this is all about (free) speech. Political correctness has a way of inhibiting free speech. What was (re)solved by the firing of I-Man? Did the punishment fit the crime? Have not Imus, Reverand Sharpton and Reverand Jackson all been guilty of misstatements? I guess that Senator Kerry and Bill Maher think like me too - not bad company, wouldn't you say? MasonR - admittedly my point may not have been clear - I am not defending Imus, I'm defending the right of free speech even if I disagree with it. So, again, I thank you all for your comments. (The I-Man will return). spot.paw

Mr. spot.paw, I commend you for standing up for free speech and for pointing out Reverend Sharpton's hypocrisy even though you are not a Don Imus fan. But, even though Mr. Imus is free to say silly stuff, he lost his sponsors, so the network had no choice but to remove him from programming. But, I agree that, like Marv Albert came back from his exile, Don Imus will eventually come back as well.

After reading Imus' obituary in the Washington Post I remembered that I had once written an Imus parody. He was the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - and he was a radio pioneer.
