Parody Song Title:

"Deadline"

Parody Written by:

Rex Ungericht

The Lyrics

From the musical "Cats".
Evening
And I'm here at my PC
'Cause my company needs me to be working this late
There's a deadline that must be met tomorrow at noon
So I'm stuck here with the moon

Midnight
I'm alone in the office
With the clack of my keyboard, I continue to work
In the break room I've got some coffee brewing again
I can hear it as it perks

Sunrise
And I suddenly wake up
And I try not to panic, just six hours to go
Get more coffee and splash some water onto my face
Yesterday seems long ago

Every keystroke seems to beat a fatalistic warning
Got to focus on some hocus pocus
To finish up this morning

Daylight
Everyone is arriving
But I've got to ignore them and just finish the task
I'm so close now I just ignore my email and phone
Three more hours' all I ask

Burnt out brain and coffee stains won't stop me from my mission
Management will applaud my skill
And give me recognition

High noon
And I've finished the project
So I give it to my boss and I wait for the praise
And he tells me the deadline got extended a week
Then I punch him in the face

Very well done Master Rex, you managed to make me feel sorry for the office worker while laughing at the same time. Not an easy feat at all. 5,5,5!

Thank you both. The first few lines had been bouncing around in my head for a long time, and when I decided to write the full parody everything just fell into place.

Must say, I was set on giving this a 4 for humour, till the last couple of lines :-) To quote Douglas Adams: "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go past"

A funny parody of such a serious song.

I loved it! Great imagery that people can relate to. Pacing was good, but the stress should always fall on the natural syllable and the number of syllables should match the original (management will applaud my skill). I plan to sing your parody at karaoke - I'll give credit where it's due, of course!
