The Lyrics

Yes, a tribute to Heavy Metal done to a Billy Joel tune. Oh the irony.Why... ...because I can.
Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Ozzy too
Heavy Metal, drinking, smoking, sex after the show

Parents worried, PMRC, Tipper Gore on Television
Grow your hair long, Put your hands up, fingers like Dio

Aqua net, makeup, why must they all cross dress?
Poison, heck I can't lie, didn't quite look like a guy

Equalizers, Woofers, Stereos that really screamed
Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Kiss that New Wave goodbye

chorus:
We didn't worship devils
It was only music
But we loved to choose it
We didn't worship devils
Yes we liked the image
But we didn't live it

Stephen Pearcy, Don Dokken, Angus Young is still rockin'
Long haired fellas, Cinderalla, had a few hits

Saxon, Scorpions, AC/DC stayed strong
Bon Scott died young, choked on his vomit

Backstage, girls screamed, Wish I could've made that scene
Ozzy Osbourne biting bats, ain't we heard enought of that

Leppard, Judas Priest, English Metal rocked on
Accident, tragedy, trouble for Rick Allen

(Chorus)

Megadeath, and Anthrax, Metallica called thrash
Krokus, Were swiss guys, Metal's own neutral side

Britny Fox, Balls to the walls, Nelson lasted not at all
Grim Reaper, Autograph, One hit wonders didn't last

Sammy Hagar, Yngwie, Black Sabbath, Nazareth
Black and Blue, Helix, didn't go platinum

Dio, Judas Priest, WASP they did it like a beast
Ozzy Rehab again, trouble for Van Halen

(Chorus)

Piece of Mind, Whitesnake, Back in Black, Albums
Casettes, vinyl, CD's came had to go

Shout at the Devil, Vince Neil drives his friend is killed
He's rich he gets community service

Groupies, private jets, always singing about sex
Rob Halford, he was gay, what more do I have to say?

(Chorus)

Hear n' Aid, all pitched in, Van Halen was back again
No Roth, good stuff, Skyscraper did suck

Hair Bands, all glam, Brett Michaels, MTV on his side
Lita Ford was one woman, Wendy Williams forgotten

Randy Rhoads crashed, Bon Scott died, Heavy Metal Suicide
Nikki Sixx, Motley Quits, Drugs with the twelve steps

Seattle Grunge in the stores, Metal rules the world no more
Pop and Hip-Hop music wars, I can't take anymore

We never worshipped devils
It was only music
But we loved to choose it
We never worshipped devils
It was just an image
But we tried to live it
We never worshipped devils
But when Britney's gone
It will still rock on, and on...

As someone who HATED metal in its gory days, and has come to find it at least interesting now, I gotta say this was an inspired effort. Some of the rhymes were off, but since when was metal ever about the lyrics? I mean, Vince Neil wasn't exactly a poet. Then again, you didn't mention G 'n' f'n' R. Or Gene Simmons' band, which means he may actually have to go to your girl instead of her coming to him. Still, how can I rate this poorly? After all, it's not like you made my guy BJ look bad... and aren't BJ a metal fan's two favorite letters, even more so than FU? The best thing about metal: It took some attention away from the awful things (name omitted out of respect for the newly dead) was doing to this country. The worst thing about metal? The same thing.

I have to admit, when I saw Michael commenting on a non-political parody, I knew he was going to say something liberal, but while reading through his comments, lo and behold, he was just talking about a band! That was until the end of it. Yes, Reagan did so many awful things, like putting an end to the Soviet Union, which is, of course, the best group in the world. I can't believe the nerve he had to go out and stop the cold war. Luckily, John Kerry will put an end to this nonsense about no terrorism or taking over the world rubbish.

Well I see this parody goes straight to the heart. Yes, it's not my most inspired, it loses the rhyme and meter in many places. But it speaks to that je ne sais quas in those of us who once raised the Dio salute to our favorite bands. As to current politics, I'd like to quote Sebastian Bach, "Heavy Metal really had something to say to society- -Fuck You!"
