The Lyrics

Being an Ohioan going to college in New York, I was struck with this culture shock.
What's the matter with the words I'm usin'
“Can't you tell that you've got it wrong?”
It's an ordinary can of cola
“Listen, man, you just don't belong.
Doesn't matter if it's Coke or it's Pepsi
Or Sprite, or Doctor Pepper, you and I don't agree”
Everybody's fighting bout their soft drinks
Clearly though, it's always been pop to me.

Something funny bout the can I'm sippin'
“Don't you know that the soda's warm?”
There's no soda here, you must be trippin'
“Don't you know that around here it's the norm?”
Doesn't matter what you will call the substance
It still keeps you up in it's crazy sugar trance
Caffeine, fructose, real acid overdose
It's always been pop to me.

Oh, it really matters where you live in this country
But everywhere it's the same old drink
Soda, pop, cola, coke
Fizzy drink, tonic, dope, soft drink, pepsi, or an NAB...
Names from the beverage scene

Whether it's drunk from a big glass bottle
Or a cool little metal can.
You're still gulping down a corn syrup mixture
If you're in England or Japan
Don't waste my time by telling me something different
Just go on and blame the difference on my accent
Northeast, midwest, deep south, and the rest
It's always been pop to me

[Insert sax solo here]

What's the matter with the stuff I'm drinkin'?
“Do you even know what it is?”
All I know for sure is it's real tasty
And it's got that sugary fizz
Don't you know about the new flavor breakthrough?
Classic Coke just can't taste the same as it used to
Call it soda, cola, soft drink, either way
It's always been pop to me.

Everybody's talking bout the stupid soda jerk
It's always been pop to me.

I've had this discussion with friends from the midwest, so I really enjoyed it (and forwarded to said friends, of course)

You are thinking what I'm thinking. What is the big deal with Coke or Pepsi anyway? By the way, what ever happened to Cindy Crawford?

So what do you call that sandwich your eating with your... soft drink? 2Eagle: She left Richard Gere and married a real man, had two kids (so far), and is more the mogul than the model now. But she still looks good despite just having turned 39.

This parody gave me a fizzy lifting feeling. :) Really good writing on a song that's tricky to pace, which you managed to counterpoint in the chorus with your new words. Nice.
