Song Parodies -> "Up! Down! Hurl!"

Original Song Title:

"Uptown Girl"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Billy Joel

Parody Song Title:

"Up! Down! Hurl!"

Parody Written by:

Stuart McArthur

The Lyrics

I thought 'hurl' was a universal synonym for 'vomit' - but googling suggests it is Aussie-centric vernacular - so, non-Aussies, "to hurl" is "to chuck"
UP! DOWN! HURL!
Roller-coasting is an unreal world
If I eat some egg and bacon pie
it disintegrates across the sky
and lands nearby

UP! DOWN! HURL!
I ride coasters all around the world
aint a coaster where I haven't hurled
I've even vomited on uptown girls
(all through their curls)

coz when I go up
I throw up
the food I ate
it's quite a buzz
coz I love
to regurgitate

I love it when I've spewed
up my food
(some unchewed)
so it's UP! DOWN! HURL!
I have conjured up some glist'ning pearls
like a chicken that I ate, sans feet
yet somehow managed to regain, complete
(and with more meat)

oh oh oh oh-oh oh-oh ew-oh ew-oh
ew ew Ralph!
oh oh oh oh-oh oh-oh ew-oh ew-oh
ew ew Hugh!

UP! DOWN! HURL!
I like to see my latest lunch unfurl
so fascinating to see IT agin!
- comes out reverse of how I put it in
(and with topspin)

I try to wait 'til
the main hill
(before the drop)
and then I open
my throat 'n
disgorge the lot

I proceed to - wreck my car
like a scene by - Peckinpah
when I UP! DOWN! HURL!
(it's unreal-er than MacLaine Shirl)
I can fill my carriage up knee-high
even if there wasn't much inside
it's nutri-cide

oh oh oh oh-oh oh-oh (spit)-oh (spit)-oh
(spit) (spit) Ralph!
oh oh oh oh-oh oh-oh (spit)-oh (spit)-oh
(spit) (spit) Bjork!

UP! DOWN! HURL!
It's Up....
Down....
Hur-ur-url
(in case you're confused)

UP! DOWN! HURL!
It's Up....
Down....
Hur-ur-url
(this carriage is used)

UP! DOWN! HURL!
It's Up....
Down....
Hur-ur-url
(you don't seem amused)

UP! DOWN! HURL!

I think hurl is pretty common over here too (enough for two people to write songs called "Everybody Hurls", and a Wayne's World staple). This song had it's ups and downs but was a fun ride overall!

Please submit this for SOTM... it would make me SICK if you didn't ; ) 555

This is a certified McArthur CLASSIC! You freakin' star...SOTM entry or I'm comin' after ya...555
Olvan The Terrible - May 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Funny! And "hurl" is a commonly-used term in the USA, although I can't remember ever hearing it before "Wayne's World" came out.

Stu, there aren't enough suphurlatives for this parody! Fivers! I have never had this problem with roller coasters though. For some reason, when I visit amusement parks, I only get nauseous in the house of mirrors!
Red Ant - May 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Just another set of 5s here. I don't get sick on roller coasters either or the house of mirrors but those I-MAX 180 screens and "Whirl and Hurl" type rides that spin you around make me ill for hours.
Michael Pacholek - May 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Blowing you five chunks.
John Jenkins - May 27, 2005 - Report this comment
You earned 5s just for the Shirley MacLaine line. The title and the rest of the parody were very good, too.

Puke this puppy up for SOTM, you nauseous Aussie! Great job!

AWESOME! Great rhyming throughout, LOL for the "Bjork" et al. Right, I reeeally need to start my essay now.
Stuart McArthur - May 27, 2005 - Report this comment
wow, thanks everyone

thanks Jeff - the reason I doubted "hurl" was in universal coinage was because it didn't appear as a synonym for vomit in rhymezone.com

thanks DAK and Kristof for that suggestion, which I'll now have to take seriously ;-)

thanks Olvan and alvin (hoping one day I'd get to say that!) and thanks John :)

LOL Rick - actually the amusement park mirrors are fine with me - it's my bathroom one I'm not speaking to

Thanks Red Ant - yeah naming it "Whirl and Hurl" pretty well eliminates the element of surprise - who says there's no truth in advertising

thanks Michael P and John J

thanks Johnny D, and I'm tipping making you nauseous is no easy feat - my work here is done......*rides off*

thanks Jack!

thanks Luke, for highlighting my Bjork!! - and surely you mean "really need to FINISH my essay now" - I think I need to have a talk with your parents
AFW - May 28, 2005 - Report this comment
This is more than a parody....It's a musical comedy!...great stuff here...Fantastic rhymes and lines...I'll gladly upchuck fives,,

I reeeaaally wish I did mean that. Nah, I'm 75% of the way through as of now. Need a break though, my guardian people's dog turns ten today so they're having friends over soon. I have to high-tail it outta this library before it closes. Parody still hilarious 5 hours later!

Stuart McArthur - May 28, 2005 - Report this comment
oh, er, thanks AFW * wipes *

uh huh, Luke, your guardian's dog's birthday, huh?....the library's closing, huh?....pen's run out of ink, huh?....(sheesh, kids of today and accountability...total strangers!)

thanks Andrew D!!

does anyone know where I can get hold of a loan?
Dee Range - May 31, 2005 - Report this comment
Super high 5's, Stuart. I think I've been in your car after you or somebody else hurled...why do you need a loan? In my world, you're rich if you can afford to throw away chicken feet lol.
Stuart McArthur - May 31, 2005 - Report this comment
even richer when you get them back fully-formed, Dee - the loan comment is ridiculous NOW, but it was funny (imho) when amiright was being bombarded by where-to-get-holf-of-a-loan spam. Chucky, in his wisdom, deleted the spam, thereby ruining my gag - typical - just can't get a break!

Thanks, Leo - welcome back

thanks Jeff, again - and an Amiright Parodic Theme Park! - there's an idea - where's Overlord Kristof to organise it?

thanks DAK and Agri

thanks Tim from refraining (unlike Spaff) from the opportunistic use of a McArthur/barfer couplet

thanks Charlie - too too kind

thanks Red Ant, and I reckon it scans beautifully - I look forward to seeing it :-)

BTW, there's a drink over here (and possibly all over the world) known as "The Green Elevator" (first it goes down, then it goes up), I suggest for us to can it and replace Coke/Pepsi with it as the big can in our AmIright themepark. ;-)

thanks K1, but please go easy on my fellow wombat - he assures me he'll finish his next essay the instant he gets back from the pub (post-hurl of course)
btw, love that Green Elevator (that's going on my cocktail menu)

Love it. I haven't been able to come up with a decent sub for "Uptown Girl" - fortunately it's now a moot point. I especially love all the parenthetical bonus rhymes, and kudos for squeezing Bjork, Shirley MacLaine, and Sam Peckinpah into a parody about throwing up on roller coasters. And I can't believe I called you McBarfer before I even saw this - you must just bring out the best in people.
Mikey Squirrel - June 27, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Great job, Stuart. I, too can't resist a good Billy Joel parody and of course anything that involves amusement rides. Glist'ning pearls? Bjork? You make vomiting sound soooo fun! Oh, by the way, I know I'm still new here, but I want in on the Amiright Parodic Theme Park. Just let me run the fun house (perfect for my brand of humor). Keep your hands and feet inside during the whole ride. Tri-Fives!

thanks Johnny, Arwen, Lake (Eyre?), 2nz
