The Lyrics

For the Conway Sisters, a singing group on the UK TV talent show The X Factor, who despite several mediocre performances remained in the competition last week at the expense of one of the best participants on the decision of judge Louis Walsh - who is known to have a personal relationship with them
Dirge and frown
Every Saturday we get a little bit stroppy and on stage we pout and we scowl
Dirge and frown
Every Saturday you get a little bit tired of listening to our caterwauled howl
Dirge and frown
Every Saturday we get a little bit wobbly and we lose it in the middle of the song
Dirge and frown
Every Saturday we sing a little bit of the number then it all goes horribly wrong
Dirge and frown, bum notes, every Saturday we fall apart (x2)

And we need votes now tonight
And we need them more than ever
'Cause we sang Hold On so light
You could hardly hear us ever
And we'll surely be leaving tonight
'Cause we always go wrong
Louis, you're a miracle, you're putting us through
The crowd are getting angry and they're starting to boo
'Cause everybody knows our staying in is a fix
You won't be hearing of us in 2006
We really nicked it tonight
We never should have stayed tonight (x2)

We'll soon be outlasting all the acts that you love
For Louis hold us dear in his heart
Nothing you can do
We should have been nixed at the start
Once upon a time this competition was nice
Now it's only something you snark
None of us can sing
We should have been nixed at the start

5 for 100% pacing, 4 for the funny changes in words (even for a subject that I knew nothing about), but 3 for effort since you only did half the song.

I did the 7" version.

Damn. Didn't know one existed. That's like serving an ice cream sundae without a cherry on top!

Wholeheartedly agree on the sentiment, Jess - very well written, indeed (though I've not come across the 7" version of this song and it did seem to finish rather abruptly).

Thanks, Phil! I see what you mean now about finishing abruptly - I thought if a verse or chorus in the original was simply repeated, we didn't have to write our parody version out twice.

I think most Americans are aware of the long version (ironic, since most American radio stations stick to short versions). On Amiright, it's often considered good form to write a new chorus each time it's repeated in the OS, if it's doable.
