The Lyrics
According to "jumptheshark.com", a TV show "jumps the shark" when something ridiculous happens and the quality of the show goes downhill after that. Occasions when this happen include weddings, births, deaths, kids growing up ("Don't call me Ricky!"), fighting couples doing the deed (Max & Kyle didn't hurt "Living Single," though), moving locations, changing hairstyles (That's not what Felicity meant when she said she wanted a "shag"), same character but different actor (Sargent/York), peripheral character taking over the show (It ain't "Will & Grace & Jack & Karen," y'know!), and any appearance by Ted McGinley. The source is the September 20, 1977 episode of "Happy Days," when Arthur Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler) defied everyone's fears by making a water-ski jump over a shark tank. Some older TV fans used to call it "seeing the leprechaun," after the December 22, 1963 incident on "Bonanza" in which Hoss Cartwright (Dan Blocker) presaged "Sesame Street"'s Snuffleupagus by several years. Even cartoons aren't immune. Those of you who are Trekkies, Voyager did a rare "reverse shark-jump" when Kes was sacked for Seven of Nine (who was stacked).

A big jumping the shark moment for me is the Christmas episode where they either move away from the usual location (e.g. 'Only Fools & Horses') or the lead characters sing (e. g. 'The Flintstones', 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer').
You know, I heard that the only long-running show that's never jumped the shark is The Simpsons; it just keeps getting better and better. (unlike this parody--HA ha) Just kidding; I'm glad you go around making rude comments on parodies, it gives me permission to do it to yours
Hey, I liked "Buffy, the Musical"! And in spite of myself, I liked the character of Seven of Nine. They had to get rid of Kes because of her short life span (and maybe because the actress wanted to do a movie?) It's also a bad idea for main characters to have babies or for a show to add Ted McGinley for some reason.
what happens if ted is on from the beginning? will kelly ripa be back down to two jobs soon? 4-5-5

Well, Sloat, if you count long-term horridness, as opposed to brief bombhood ("Cop Rock," "Hello, Larry," all the post-Jerry shows by the Seinfelders), the worst TV show in history, or at least the most disgusting, was "Married...with Children." And that had Ted McGinley from the start. There is a category on jumptheshark.com for "Day One," as in most voters say it "jumped" at the pilot. There is also a category for "Never Jumped," but a show has to have quite a bit more than a majority of such votes to be counted as such. I just hope that day which lives in infamy when Chucky banned sex-themed submissions isn't the day Amiright "jumped the shark."
Delightfully arcane. But I always thought the Fonz went downhill after he let Pinky Tuscadero get away after the Milachi brothers episodes. His manhood was seemingly frustrated ever after.

Okay, this has got to be the most genius parody I've seen here. To top it off, I haven't been able to get the OS out of my head for weeks, and The Fonz is one of my all time favorite characters, so yeah, all 5's here.
I think the Simpsons jumped the shark around Y2K when all the neighborhood boys formed a "boy band". Given the sickening corporate state of popular music (and everything else as well) in the 00s decade this was a very DEPRESSING klaxon to me. It was more like an unfunny reminder of the bleakness of the world. The show's humor vehicle had run out of gas. Also, when Urkel was using thatmachine that transformed him into a pseudo-Elvis I knew "Family Matters" ' days were numbered. When Cosmo Kramer was deemphazed on "Seinfeld" (he was getting louder applause) in 1996 the show got so godawful unfunny fast and the series finale was absolutely sadistically HORRIBLE. Also, when the "Simpsons" formed their own series Tracy Ullman's variety show bit the dust - a shame, I loved it and Tracy - the Lady of 1000 Disguises is AMAZING and full of talent. This is all IMHO and I dig your parody. You did a lot of research to write it and it shows. Kudos.
