Original Song Title:

"Lady In Red"

Original Performer:

Chris de Burgh

Parody Song Title:

"My Garden Shed"

Parody Written by:

Stuart McArthur

The Lyrics

after all domestic squabbles, the woman seeks comfort from her girlfriend or sister, while the man seeks comfort from his shed
Never seen a building look as lovely as you do tonight
glistening in the pale moonlight
mm mm mm mm

Never would this married man
not appreciate what you do
looking for a place to run to
when I'm IN the poo
I have never seen you more inviting
or receptive to my need to find some peace
from the bloke police

My garden shed
Is waiting for me
by the creek
Nobody here
Just you and me
and a plasma TV
I can't forget
these comforts you provide
Broadband internet
is where I'll be tonight

(instrumental)

Never seen you looking so gentle as you do tonight
minding all my tools inside
You are amazing
Never have I wanted so much
to be sitting inside
and when I turned the key tonight
my troubles went away
I have never had such a feeling
like this feeling of such masculine content
as I do tonight

My garden shed
is comforting me
loyal - ly
There's nothing else
just you and me
and a Nick Cave CD
Volume down low
My wife will never know
and I won't forget
the friend you've been tonight

I'll have a cigarette
and bunk here overnight

well done with a lot of sensitivy for all the poor males that suffer with domestic discord...555

I think I'd look to move into your garden shed...you'll have to find a new place to pout. 5s...

If you've got a plasma tv in your shed, you're the man! Between that and having the 2999th post... =)

thanks for "shedding' a little light on the subject...5s

Thanks, Asskicker! Metaphorically, it's the size of a small continent

pouters don't take up much space as they're usually huddled in corners, so there's plenty of room for two, Arwen

It started as romance Kristof, but I'm now pushing for a deeper commitment

thanks John

yes, Mr Deleto-Bastard! - but a shed and plasma is all a bloke needs

thanks Alvin - I do like shedding :-)

And do you, in fact, have two sheds?
Stuart McArthur - November 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Adagio :-)

Steve, do you mean does my wife have one too? What would she need one for? :-)

Nah, obscure Monty Python quote. How come wives never end up in the shed/doghouse, anyway?
Stuart McArthur - November 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Yeah, why is that?...and gee, I should have gotten the Python gag - what movie/episode/sketch was that, Steve?

thanks so much, Steve - I read it and it's hilarious - I can see why it would have come back to you after reading this -I can't believe I've never seen or heard that sketch

Hi Stuart, I've sent directions to your song/parody on this site to many of my 'green and growing' friends as I thought it was a hoot! I think the original music and lyrics are wonderful and yours are as well; you've just taken it 'outside'. Can I ask permission to repost in a newsletter or is that forbidden? Thanks for a great piece of work - you've made a number of garden folk I know take a second look at their shed lately!

hi The Hort Lady

absolutely - be my guest - by all means - all of the above

I had completely forgotten about this one, and on re-reading just now it I kinda like it, and I still agree with its sentiments - hope your readers enjoy it - Stu McArthur
