The Lyrics

This is my 42:th parody here on AmIRight. Itīs dedicated to the late Douglas Adams, author of suchs books as "The Hitch Hikerīs Guide to the Galaxy", "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" and "Life, the Universe and Everything". As for possible comments about it; just bring out your best Hitch Hiker quotes. The first one should be obvious. :-)
I was plain ol' Arthur Dent
When the Vogons came that day
Blew the Earth away

Now I bunk with Beeblebrox
Since he stole the Heart of Gold
I never been that bold

I know this strangest fella
Heīs a writer; Ford Prefect
Marvin he wines for eeeons
On Ursa Minor, thereīs a lunch break in effect

DON'T PANIC, count to 42
Mice gives me lip, n'can be such rats
DON'T PANIC, God failed logic 2
There are no rules, just Krikkit bats
DON'T PANIC, just count to 42

Zaphod got the munchies so
We sat off on hot tea light
With the End in sight

Finally a Restaurant
But it was the sadest gig
It only ended with a Bang Big

My towel is it destined
To hang alone and dry
Those mice canīt answer that question
Iīll do whatīs working, Iīm going up to fly

Come up and Party Trillian!
Fjords make me hot, I will zap your butts
Why canīt it be, say, 41?
There are no rules, just party hats
Janx Spirit? Letīs drink some every1!

Iīve seen the way of Hikers, Vogon-likers, Slartibartfastīs babelfish

DON'T PANIC, count to 42
Mice fur-m'd the Earth, in their exo-suits
DON'T PANIC, thereīs a Guide 4 U
There are no rules, just xeno-brutes
DON'T PANIC, just count to 42

DONīT PANIC
Etc

Don't know this song but I had to give you fives cause I love the Hitchhiker books and I can tell you put some effort in. So long, and thanks for all the quips.

Hmm... what do you get if you multiply six by nine?

Fives, I guess ;-)... I liked the "My towel is destined to hang alone and dry" line. But, hey - d'you sass that hoopy k1chyd? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is

Duh, fifty-four.

...well who said the world was supposed to make sense?

(though it is 42 if you're in base13 rather than decimal... I've often wondered whether DNA had worked this out when he came up with "what do you get if you multiply six by nine")

I'm sorry, Phil. I didn't realize we were working in a different base system. Of course, in base 13, you would have the symbols A, B, and C.

TV - I do recommend reading The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: in it, a bunch of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings build a supercomputer which tells them what the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything actually is... after seven million years of calculations, the computer (called Deep Thought) comes up with the answer "Forty-two"... so they design a planet-sized computer which includes lifeforms as part of its computational matrix in order to work out what the question actually is.

Unfortunately, this planet (called "Earth") is destroyed by Vogons two minutes before the answer was due to be reported... However, Arthur Dent (one of two survivors from Earth) using a pseudo-random means of extraction (pulling scrabble squares out of a bag) manages to write what might be the ultimate question: "What do you get if you multiply six by nine"

THHGTTG was possibly the most original book of its kind ever published, witty, funny and with some wonderful insights into the stupidity of life generally.

What Phil said. And itīs most definitely NOT "mostly harmless". :-) For those not familiar with it; imagine what Monthy Pythonīs "the meaning of life" could have been if they had been sf-fans in the core of their souls. Just remember, as itīs stated on the back cover, DONīT PANIC!
Peregrin - September 24, 2003 - Report this comment
Great Job ! And as Phil said, anyone who gets the chance to read or see HHGTTG should not miss it!

>>Hmm... what do you get if you multiply six by nine? >>Duh, fifty-four. It wouldn't be forty two, of course, since Arthur was descended from the exiles rather than the humans designed for Earth. However, as Marvin and Ford pointed out, he had either the wrong question or a skewered version of the right question in his brain wave patterns. Therefore it is possible that the Ultimate Question was really "what do you get when you multiply six by seven?" Equally likely, however, it was something entirely different. Oh yeah, good song though. I've never heard the original, but it's about the Hitchhiker's trilogy, so what the heck.

Great H2G2 tribute--there are far too few of them out there for my tastes. Even though I don't know the original song, I still thought it was a good one. And remember, I know where my towel is and I will share and enjoy all my life. Life? Don't talk to me about life....

OK, finally finished the first book (about a week ago, sorry it's taken so long to reply to my Mathematics comment, I couldn't access this site for aaages). Anyway, great work. Also don't know the original song, but there's variation in the chorus and clever references. What do you get if you multiply 5 by 3? A perfect score! Ask the Babel fish.

Only someone who really loves THHGTTG would be on the look out for their 42nd parody.

Truth be told it was actually number 37, 38 or 39 (parallel works goin' on) but I saved it and posted it as my 42nd here on AmIright.
