The Lyrics

Look around here.
The turkey lies before me,
Let's make Thanksgiving the way
It used to be.

I am older now,
I have much for which I'm thankful,
But I should have started praying
Long before I did.

And there's so much good food baking
Everywhere you turn,
Turkey will be basted on this day.
So much tradition,
And so much giving thanks,
Before we gather and watch the Cowboys play.

Oh when you were young,
You couldn't wait for Christmas,
And you envied all the neighbors
Who got better toys.

Look around you now,
You got most of what you wanted.
Look at your whole life, you have a lot of joys.

And there's so much good food baking
Everywhere you turn,
Turkey will be basted on this day.
So much tradition,
And so much giving thanks,
Before we gather and watch the Cowboys play.

And there's so much love to go 'round
In your family,
And that's the best part of the holidays.
So much home-cooked food
Will be stored in the fridge,
While we gather and watch the Cowboys play,
Like we do every Thanksgiving Day.

MM - This turkey flies better than the real bird. Now I'm starting to look forward to the holidays with entres that are over 555 calories.

Michael, good try. Tough song to match pace to. Very good in some places but in the "So Much tradition..." thru "Before we gather and watch the Cowboys play" part (and the similar place down below) the pace goes a bit off. With a little finnagling you could make it work real well - I see it as something like: "Much beloved traditions/ with which we've been blessed/ Gather 'round the tube to watch the Cowboys play." Still, a good effort. I gave you 4-4-5 here. Even though Thanksgiving is still 3 months away...

I'm thankful The Good Lord saw fit to give me yet another Labor Day weekend with my loved ones! Every day should be Thanksgiving, and this parody says it well. Good job, MM, and thank you!
