The Lyrics

After 55 years of being the most successful (and IMHO) best male duo in rock'n'roll history, all of a sudden around Thanksgiving last year Daryl filed a lawsuit to dissolve his partnership with John. Supposedly John was going to sell his copywrite shares of the songs they did but he wrote, and Daryl wanted to prevent such a 'sneaky' move 'behind his back'. Yet supposedly Daryl did the same thing himself about 15 years prior. So, who do you believe here? Daryl (who's been noted in the past for being snooty and haughty) is now sassing off about John and claiming that he did a number of H + O hits all by himself. Well, this isn't Wham!, folks. John Oates is no Andrew Ridgley, he's contributed a tremendous amount of great music in their discography even if he didn't SING as much as his partner did. I've seen them performing twice, and they WERE a duo, not two solo artists together. Now Daryl is acting Trumpian and is touring with 'the best backup band ever for me'. Yet why has some of H + O's tour and album session musicians quit working for H + O as well as for Daryl's solo projects? He recently released a new CD, titled simply 'D'. As in 'Dickhead', 'Douchebag', 'Dirtbag', etc.? And it hasn't even charted, unlike his previous solo albums. As for Oates, he's showing a calm demeanor about it all. He says that these allegations aren't true and that he just wants to keep on making music because he enjoys doing so. He's got a new release out too; he's explored styles outside of the H + O 'mold' such as folk, Americana and such. With one side screaming like a geek and the other acting mild and mature, I tend to lean towards Oates' side of this shocking clash. And it's very SAD that such a hugely successful rock'n'roll act that was practically everywhere during the 80s decade (they scored five #1 hits and several Top 10s) has come to such a bitter end like this.
Well I can't believe
After all these years together
You're sassing off your partner
After fifty-five years

Over a bunch of
Stupid business copywrite sharings
And you were the biggest male pairing
Most successful of all time

Well you (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
You really piss me off (you, you)
You (you, you)
Well, well, well, you (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
Oh yeah, you really piss me off (ooh-ooh)
You, yeah (you, you)

Well I can't believe all those allegations
Bellyaching bitching braying
Acting like a big disgrace
You were such a great duo
Sing play write good songs together
And you really had a good run
We were all so entertained, oh yeah

Well, now you (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh) uh-huh
You really piss me off (you, you, you, you)
Oh yeah (you)
Well, well, well, you (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh) whoo-hoo
You really piss me off (you, you, you, you)
Oh yeah (you)
Well listen to this
Pow!

And you're such an asshole
Taking credit for it all, yourself
I know

Well, you, that's right, you really piss me off (you, you)
Oh yeah (you, you)
I've had enough of your, enough of your, lip (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
Oh yeah, you really piss me off (you, you, you, you)
False allegations

Well we've had enough, had enough, lip (ooh-ooh)
All my life
You really piss me off, oh (you, you, you, you)
Well we've had enough, had enough, had enough, had enough
Had enough, had enough, had enough
(You make my dreams) Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh (you, you, you, you)
Well we've had enough you, now (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
You piss me off (you, you)

At the conclusion of the last song of the 2017 CD 'Concrete and Gold' by the Foo Fighters, there is a time of silence and then Dave Grohl teasingly shouts out to the album's mixer/engineer/mastering agent Darrell Thorp with a brief 'Fuck you, Darrell!'. Well with Daryl Hall acting so smugly and with all the sassymouthing he's been dishing to John Oates after all these decades together, I say the same thing. FUCK YOU, DARYL!!!
