The Lyrics

youtube

This is my third Barney Fife parody. In case you're not an "Andy Griffith Show" fan, "nip it in the bud" was one of the overly-zealous smalltown deputy's favorite sayings.

Damn Aunt Bee!
Ate a grape for free
Grocery store
Sticky-fingered whore

When a crime is goin' down
I will nip it
Where people breakin' laws are found
I will nip it
When order is unwound
I must nip it

I'll nip it
In the bud
Break it up
Go straight
Law, order
Rights are read
Like a detective
Investigate
And nip it
In the bud

When they're smokin' wacky weed
I will nip it
When they steal your chicken feed
You bet I'll nip it
Criminals will pay
Just watch me nip it

Cattle tippin'
In the mud
I'll be nippin'
In the bud

Opie's screwed!
Readin' "Wet 'n' Nude"
Otis is drunk
Kick him in the junk

If you're takin' two for one
I will nip it
I'll put my bullet in my gun
Then I'll nip it
When someone's havin' fun
I must nip it

I'll nip it
In the bud
Rip it up
Law and
Disorder
Under bed
I will inspect it
Eliminate
And nip it

In the bud
Round 'em up
Go ape
Kick Otis
Bust Aunt Bee
Get re-elected
As deputy
And nip it
In the bud

As a fan of TAGS, can I make a request? Can you do a parody about Otis???

I'll let that idea rattle around in my skull for awhile and see if anything pops out.

I may be young, but I watched Andy Griffith with my mom when it ran on Nick at Nite. (Ah, the nostalgia.) Don Knotts was fantastic as Barney Fife (and later on as the meddling Ralph Furley on Three's Company). Good job! 5/5/5!

Never ever, ever, ever seen the Andy Griffith Show so I'm completely lost as to what you're talking about here. Sorry buddy.

Oh well, hopefully you'll check it out someday. Be sure to stick to the black-and-white episodes, the color ones suck.

(Artistry) Never really saw the show, but I know what the saying means so I could get most of it as generally statements not as references. It was really good otherwise.

Thanks, and check out a "Barney" episode of the show sometime!

(Artistry) What, no Floyd? :-) And today's trivia for the younger folks - Gomer Pyle started out as a character on The Andy Griffith Show. (And the younger folks answer, "Who's Gomer Pyle?") Anyway, nice job, although the thought of Barney Fife kicking someone in the junk (except accidentally) seems a bit out of character.

It does, but in this song Barney just had a sudden compelsion to do it. Thanks for the comment!
Agrimorfee - February 05, 2012 - Report this comment
Well done, Porfle, particularly the consistent rhyme schemes amongst the many references that must have been difficult to insert within this song structure.

Thanks, bud!

(Artistry) Well, I kinda understood, but I guess a better knowledge of the show (one that exceeds "the theme song whistles") might help me better appreciate this parody.
Porfle Popnecker - February 14, 2012 - Report this comment
Oh, well. Check out a few reruns sometime, I think you'll like it.

The original has a similar theme, but you took it to a more literal route. . Personally, despite hating Law & Order, I saw this parody from a general cops perspective and some of the individual examples were fantastic (The grape in the beginning for example) I think that you did very well what you had to work with, and more importantly it was funny, so good job, 555 and will make my top 5 easily
