Over in Australia we call double plugger flip-flop sandals thongs which the thong bit is between the big toe and the 2nd toe, not the arsecheeks. I tend to wonder what was called thongs first, the G-string or the sandals, I bet the flip-flop sandals as Australia has called them thongs for decades whereas G-strings might have only been around for say 30 years tops (correct me if I'm wrong).
