The Lyrics

Is rock dying because of today's chart music?
We're smashing up guitars
And smashing up drums
So boy-bands will show up
We know, they are dumb
I guess there are no fans to play
We're losing sound (losing sound)
Will songs ever sound musical eh?

Its the final Motown
The final Motown

We're playing for schoolgirls (schoolgirls)
And they will love us
Cause baby they've kissed us,
And playing for pearls
With so many rock bands to lose
And fans to be gone (to be gone)
I'm sure that we will miss them so

Its the final Motown
The final Motown

Yes. Yes it is. Fight the fight. Good work Jason.

Europe is one of the few big bands from the 80s that have failed to get a crowd of nostalgia-longing old fans to show up for their reunion tour. Serves them right for attacking the world and good taste with this OS. Also, and as the final tombstone over the song it has now gotten covered by a band from Finland's musical academy alzheimer's victim retirement jam session home:

This song is so great. We remember how great motown was- Michael Jackson was still black then and had his original nose, Diana Ross told us that there "ain't no mountain high enough". Our dad still listens to Billie Jean over and over.

Clever topic and quite insightful. Now go get down with your bad self.

Wow, I didn't realize this song was so. . . . .short, still good topic--this one is a good day to day parody, wondering what you are cooking up for SOTM though. . .

Brilliant song. I'd give this a 10 if we had them here- but our voting system on this site only goes up to 5, so you'll just have to settle for some 5's. I see a lot of 5's in your future.

I've often wondered what Europe play for the rest of their set... this is the only song I think I've ever heard from them. Not sure I'd call Motown "Rock", but enjoyed the parody - to answer your question, rock ain't dying (even if the profusion of tinny boy bands is drowning out the sound temporarily)
