Parody Song Title:

"Wreck of the Qanon Navy"

Parody Written by:

John Dacey

The Lyrics

The legend lives on in hearts of QAnon
Of the big water that they call Lake Travis
The lake, so they say, became choppy that day
MAGA boaters would learn just what sad is.
Loaded with booze, they all went for a cruise
With trump-pence flags a-flying together
They had style and panache 'til their decks were awash
In spite of it being nice weather.

No storm or freak gale had caused them to fail
The damage was all self-inflicted.
But Antifa was named, then Obama was blamed
For the sinkings that could be predicted.
So stifle your laughs at their maritime gaffes,
Let's pretend that we're all quite befuddled
Why people all say we'll remember the day
When the QAnon Navy was scuttled.

Around these parts, we refer to "Edmund FitzGerald" as one of the Big Seven, because of the length of the song (seven stanzas) We basically prove ourselves as parody masters by doing all seven. So, as a newbie, we shouldn't demand that you do all seven stanzas but you should do half the song. .... BTW, the two stanzas you completed are pretty good

I have done a couple of Fitzgerald parodies, in addition to frequent (some would say too frequent) retellings of the story of the ship to other melodies. I confess to not being familiar with Q-Anon. I assume it is some sort of purveyor of false news concerning President Trump. If that is so, there should be plenty of material for a full-length TWOTEF. As CML noted, you're off to a very good start.

CMl, Patrick - Sincere thanks for taking time to comment. I'm terrifically chuffed that anyone would suggest that I add to this but I'm afraid that the event it memorializes (Texas boat parade sinkings) doesn't warrant more any more space. Yes, QAnon is a fringe group of conspiracy theorists and big fans of trump¹. I wasn't aware that there was a thing called the Big Seven (and you folks don't make it easy to find out what's on the list). It's curious that by dumb luck the two pieces I've submitted here are on it (other one is Major General's Song). ¹ Impeached

The Big Seven (American Pie, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Major General, Be My Guest, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Blinded By The Light, Bohemian Rhapsody) was a object of competition when I first came to AIR around 2007. I've only done three (TWOTEF, Major General, and American Pie). The late, great Tommy Turtle did not like my attempts at American Pie and I never approached it again. The Big Seven seems to have faded away along with most of the writers who were active at that time. I found an old reference to Tommy Turtle lobbying to include the original seven minute "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in a "Big Eight". I assume most of the newcomers are younger and have a different perspective on music. There seems to be a trend toward what I would call "punk" or "heavy metal" stuff featuring profanity and sexual references beyond what was common ten years ago or so. The other big fad at the time were spin-offs of "I Put A Spell On You", about the shortest song that Charles Grosvener would allow on the site as an OS. Robert Arndt Jr and John Barry made a bit of a specialty of that one, with each producing hundreds of parodies. I did a few "Spells" but it's not my kind of song. I did do a "MacArthur Park" in the voice of "Screaming Jay Hawkins", begging the authors to find other songs to parody. "MacArthur Park" was intimidating at first. Radio DJ's played it when they needed to use the restroom, because it is so long. But most of it is instrumental, so it was not as hard as I first thought. Political topics used to draw voluminous commentary. I've even gotten death threats. Some people here don't always seem to grasp the concept of "satire" or the practice of writing in the person of someone you don't agree with. I've written in the character of a gay man, and as Fred Phelps, the Topeka homophobe. I've even written as a reptile trying to evolve into a bird. Parody gives you the chance to take on new ideas and points of view. It's a form of acting. It's always good to see new writers with talent. You do have a good point. If you can say what you need to say in two verses and that's all that the subject warrants, explain that in the top comments. Welcome aboard.

It wouldn't be an official TWOTEF parody if I didn't at least comment on it. As was said earlier: What you do have is very good, but it's not enough. I do applaud the sentiment.

Michael Pacholek, CMl, Patrick - Pursuant to your scolding that it should be longer, please insert the following two stanzas in between the ones above. (Sorry, I don't know how to just amend the original). I hope the formatting will be preserved in the comments boxes. To dumb luck it redounds that none of them drowns 'Though to some it appeared they were trying. Not a single buffoon was with life vest festooned, Not a one was with mask rules complying. But everyone there had their cap plus a spare In the bright red that MAGA supported. They patrolled the lake marking those in their wake As as someone who should be deported. On that ill-fated day Stars 'n Stripes were displayed But our flag wasn't always respected. It mostly was there as ill-fitting beachwear On bodies indulged or neglected. It was sewn into shorts and bikinis of sorts That barely contained all the jiggling. But their cups filled with pride couldn't turn back the tide, As they sank all that watched them were giggling.

Patrick mentioned Tommy Turtle, an actual retired stand up comedian and comedy writer who was a member of the Screen Actor Guild. This all around MENSA level genius and cantankerous old bastid functioned.as a kind of Simon Cowell.for the website ....... So, after about a two months grace period, he starts in with "The Tommy Turtle Treatment." Eventually, I began to come back at the Terrible Terrapin with some reasonable responses, like you have here. So he softens his tone and says in effect, "You have real talent; dont squander it." ...... So thats what was going on in my mind -- those two stanzas were really good, but by the standards of Amiright, which has seen a dozen parodists as good.as Al Yankovich, thats an incomplete ..... Now, I didnt want you to be dismayed by what I wrote, and if thats what happened, I apologize. I really dont want any negativity at all in the Comments section -- that has caused serious damage to our website

Once, as Tommy pointed out, I neglected to include a stanza in a parody of "Yesterday". I simply ran it again with the missing lines included. The lines you ran in the comment section are quite fitting and should be posted again so that there will be a complete example. I don't think there is any rule against it. I don't use the number ratings, and pay no attention to my numbers. I do like to get comments which prove somebody read it and understood. Or didn't.. That's where the fun begins. I don't know of any way to remove a parody, unless the administrator does it. But you should be able to repost with the added stanzas. Just call it "Wreck of Q-Anon (The Director's Cut) or something like that, and you'll be OK. Perhaps you might pick up some new readers.

Yes, Admins won't delete a parody without a very good reason. TWOTEF is a hard piece, I wouldn't expect anyone to do it with a snap of the fingers. Patrick has good advice above, just do a rewrite if you wish. I liked this, too. Print out the full 7 (yes 7!) stanzas and see what you can do. (but be sure there is no direct comments at other writers, swearing or direct sexual content). Good luck!
