Another political parody. To be honest, I'm lukewarm about both the "Occupy Wall Street" and "Tea Party" movements. The former criticizes big corporations, but does so in a very vague fashion, rather than criticizing specific actions taken by the businesses (Buddy Roemer, whom I like, is a notable exception, as he's primarily focusing on corporate lobbyists and their role in corrupting politicians, which is something I agree is a problem). The tea partiers claim they are "Taxed Enough Already" while in reality taxes are actually very low right now (compared, for example, to the 1950s when taxes on the highest income bracket were 90%). Again, there are some Tea Partiers I like (Ron Paul, for example), but many of them seem to be out of touch with reality. I'd like to see a third protest movement arise. Inspired by Jimmy McMillan, these protestors would all wear leather gloves and fancy mustaches and their motto would be "The Debt Is Too Damn High!" The idea would be to pay off the national debt by any means necessary, even if that means raising taxes AND cutting spending. To be honest, neither Keynesian economics (borrowing money in order to spend more) nor supply-side economics (borrowing money in order to cut taxes on the rich) ever made much sense to me, and I'm starting to get fed up with both major parties.. I know people don't like tax increases, but if that's what it takes in order to pay off this debt, than it's something we've gotta do. We can't seriously talk about "American Exceptionalism" when we're well over $14 trillion in debt, now, can we? Exceptional nations don't let themselves get into debt in the first place.
